Auriel

First appearance Diablo III (2012). Auriel is said to be the most lighthearted member of the Angiris Council. It is through her that hope flows through the fabric of Creation, and her eternal light illuminates even the darkest of souls. She believes in the potential for good in all things, including the hearts of all sentient beings.Seeking harmony in all things, she is a mediator and counselor. However, Auriel is not a pacifist, and she does not shy away from strife, for she recognizes that conflict is the nature of the universe. Thus, when necessary, she serves as a warrior as well.

What makes Auriel unique is her ability to see harmony even in the midst of discord. She believes that victory for one side does not always mean defeat for the other. To her way of thinking, beyond each conflict lies the promise of healing.

"Hold on to Hope: it will not abandon you. The Eternal Conflict continues between the forces of Good and Evil. Evil will triumph over those who give into Despair, but Despair cannot defeat the power of Hope! Hope is the voice that will never be silent. Hope is the spring that fills the wells of courage. Got my angel crown!

After much dedication to my favorite Heroes toon, Auriel, my go-to warrior, Tyrael, and the all-new style (for me) of melee assassin with Malthael, I got all three archangels leveled up to master level and unlocked the player portrait for the achievement!

Summary: Malthael had supposed there would be silence in death. Instead, he found wisdom and the chance for redemption. Post-RoS.

I present the opening two chapters of the first story in a series of Diablo tales exploring a very simple idea: what if death wasn’t the end for Malthael, but instead, the beginning of his path to obtaining true wisdom? In All Things Light and Dark opens as Act I and the series barrels forward from there.

Diablo: Amor Aeternus is 4 stories, all complete, to be posted over the next couple of months. The series tackles ideas I would love to see Blizzard handle in the next game, as well as philosophical treatises on morality and what it means to be human. There is action and compassion and, most importantly, character interaction! (It rhymes, I’m sorry.) Think Avatar: The Last Airbender meets Blizzard and you’re on the right track for my writing.

A little about me, since my Tumblr blog so far has mostly been me sharing things that remind me of this series:

I’ve written fanfiction for a looooong time (see my fanfiction.net profile, which also has the story, for more deets), but I also do non-fiction writing for a living, as well as publish short-fiction on the side;

All my stories have at least one sarcastic INTJ in them. This series has more than one. You’re welcome, fellow Masterminds (beware the calm, quiet ones, we will wreck your souls and eat your biscuits);

Some of my fave fictional things: Doctor Who, Interstellar, Contact, Arrival, Fantastic Beasts, Thor: Ragnarok, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Borderlands, League of Legends, Blizzard games/stories, and Guild Wars (2)!
