An example of when architectural competitions yield excellent results. These angular shelters evolve as you walk along the promenade and seem to have survived two years of placement on the seafront with barely a scratch. The wood is ageing well but there was no sign of grafitti or decay. 

It's good to know that we, as a generation, are still producing things with economy, quality and inventiveness at heart.

When you look at the other entries it makes you realise how some architects are good at creating ethereal computer renderings of transparent glass and crisp, shining surfaces but fail to realise that buildings, once built, exist in reality, a realm of curry sauce being thrown at windows, white plaster attracting specks of mould and the dark twilight of November evenings.

The shelters that were chosen have the rare distinction of looking much better in reality than in the renderings.
