“Oh, everything is just fine!! RL tests continue to be good. And in Story, times itself have never been better! I had to make a few adjustments but things have gotten unexpectedly better. A few new things that I need to adjust for is.. well, I cant exactly get home anymore… I have no way back yet.
You see.. I kinda sorta… permanently died. And after a while I got bored and stole Hell and became Queen. I mean, I’m staying out of trouble now but I got into the biggest trouble in order to get here..”
I should have just bought Games Wizards Play in hardcover when I had the chance. I could’ve got it signed, even. But nooo, I was going to get it in ebook to match the NMEs.
But it’s not in the ebooks direct store (which, ???) so I bought it on kobo, and now I can’t figure out how to get it onto my tablet! It downloads as a weird format that does not appear to be an epub. PLUS now I’m having to deal with the fact that Lifeboats won’t open in my usual ereader app (which was the case before, and was annoying enough then, but now I’m actually (nearly) having to deal with it).
So I get a new app that can open it--Overdrive. I figure at least that might be useful, the library uses it, I won’t be taking up that much memory on my tablet for just one file. I have to make an account, fine. I even manage to open GWP /and/ Lifeboats in Overdrive. At least something is working!
BUT THEN when I go on my tablet and open Overdrive they AREN’T THERE. At least I only paid half price for this book I’m ABOUT TO HAVE TO BUY AGAIN.
I was meant to be back to studying at least half an hour ago, I just want things to work.
Curses and curses and curses upon ebooks. Oh wait, THEY ALREADY ARE.

The outline for my Readercon 25 talk on Dystopian Economics is here; those of you who were hoping for a book may be glad to know I'm working with glyphpress to expand this and some of the currency talk I gave last year into a toolkit for gamebuilders and worldbuilders. Watch this space for a release date.
On a related note, if you're into gaming and speculative economics, you might enjoy this "game tale" I wrote for Angry Cuddles, a short story based on Rio Grande Games' excellent Puerto Rico.
