Her bones ache. The pain is everywhere, overwhelming—crawling up her skin and through her flesh and piercing her lungs and nerves and bones and heart.
But despite it all, she can't help but feel. . . joy. Her one wish has been granted. Her son, her beautiful, grown up son, is here by her side. Here to hold her, to reassure her, to ease her pain and guide her into her next life. To freedom.
"Now, am I complete," she tells him, reaching and cupping his face in her hand. She tries to smile, to let him know how much he is loved, how glad she is that he came back. Her mouth doesn't move quite right and her head pinches with sharp pains, but he seems to understand.
"I love—"
I love you.
She rests.

His bones ache. The pain is endless and exhausting—his lungs burn and his every limb spasms and he can still feel electricity worming its way through his flesh and blood.
But despite it all, he can't help but feel. . . joy. His son is alive, and safe. His daughter, who he will never meet, will never be so much as glanced at by the Emperor. The Emperor is dead and gone for good.
Never again will a Skywalker be enslaved—to any Master or any Darkness or any higher power.
"Now, you must leave me," he tells his son. He's ready to die alone. But Luke must live.
Luke protests. Viciously. "You have already saved me," he tries to remind Luke, and tries for a first attempt at a smile in decades. "You were right about me."
"Tell your sister . . . you were right."
I love you.
He rests.
