Los Danzadores de Anguiano: the ultimate trust fall
La Magdalena: the Festival of the Patron Saint María Magdalena is held every 22 July in Anguiano, La Rioja, Spain. The festival lasts about a week, and includes the famous stilt dance. It is performed by eight young men, called danzadores (”dancers”), standing on 45-cm (17.5-in) stilts and wearing yellow skirts. Part of the dance involves them spinning madly down the paved hill called Cuesta de los Danzadores (Dancers’ Hill). The crowd stands on either side, ready to catch them if they fall. The petticoats and skirts worn by the danzadores help them keep their balance. And also, who doesn’t love twirling in a full skirt?
Thanks to @mothedri for bringing this festival to my attention!
