So it got a bit complicated - I had this account, started archiving thirty years of sketchbook practice , almost finished it, got banned without any explanation as to why, opened a new account and began the process of transferring the posts over for a year, this account got in-banned inexplicably and now both accounts have some of my sketchbook practice but not all. I’m of a mind to continue with both accounts - archiving different stages of this process until one or other have a complete record. I’ll have to remember where I was up to. As I was saying, before I was so rudely interrupted - I was making some design drawings for prints about Angulimala- who’s name means “necklace of finger bones”. He was a terrifying figure, deluded into thinking that if he collected a thousand finger bones he would achieve some magical power. He wore them in a monstrous garland around his neck and haunted a forest where he rampaged killing and mutilating to collect his dreadful trophies. He needed one more finger and saw and targeted the Buddha wandering meditating in the woods. He charged but was immediately defeated and overwhelmed by the Buddha’s supernatural level of calm and stillness and submitted to him, becoming His disciple and changing his name to Ahimsaka “the one who does no harm”. He worked so hard in the service of the Buddha and so fully turned away from his previous evil that he purified himself enough to also achieve Enlightenment. Thus he becomes the Buddhist patron saint of redemption. The Buddhist prison chaplaincy is named after him. I still haven’t cut this block after a year of chaos but will one day when life is less uncertain agai🤞#angulimala #blockprinting #linocut #printmakersofinstagram #dharma #buddha #secondchance #redemption (at Minster Court) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXqwyEYMFzb/?utm_medium=tumblr
