Looking high and looking low
For the food and firewood I know
we need to find
And I am keeping one eye on the sky
And tryin' to trust
that the song he's working on
Is gonna shelter us
from the wind, the wind, the wind

Orpheus is neurodivergent.
He says what he's thinking, and doesn't do small talk. He says "Come home with me," before saying hello.
Hermes is always talking about how Orpheus sees the world differently. (Sidenote: I see Hermes as kinda being Orpheus' therapist, pointing out the simple solutions when Orpheus is overthinking)
He gets so wrapped up in his creative process, he forgets that he and Eurydice need food.
He loves deeply, but has to learn and relearn how to be in a relationship.
He seems really melodramatic, but actually, he is just genuinely that upset.
He sometimes struggles to express himself in a way that other people understand. (Maybe I'm projecting, but that's the vibe I get)
Orpheus is neurodivergent.

Hadestown and Online Activism
Preemptive TL:DR, this kinda boils down to "Hadestown has nuance, tumblr is allergic to nuance"
"Go ahead and lay the blame. Talk of virtue, talk of sin. Wouldn't you have done the same, in her shoes, in her skin? You can have your principles when you've got a belly full."
So says the amazing jazz/folk musical Hadestown. Many people here would do well to consider how this quotation might apply to them. It's easy for my fellow well meaning white people to say "Well, of course I agree that black lives matter, but I don't condone rioting," because we are not nearly as affected by police brutality.
It's easy to moralize when you're not the one suffering.
This also applies to the mindset of "You bought at W@lmart/ Amaz0n/ McDona1d's/ etc, so you must support the company and their toxic policy." Unethical business practices yield lower prices, and there are times when those are the cheapest options.
Anais Mitchell - Why We Build The Wall
