Thinking about it now, I’ve seen a lot of people complain about Yashahime’s art style as of late. It got me flipping through the few volumes of Inuyasha that I do have on hand and got me thinking, yknow? I’m pretty sure the reason the new art style of Yashahime looks off is because Sunrise is trying to remain more faithful to Rumiko’s art style this time around. 🤔
Do they have the budget to keep the frames as consistent as possible? No, but at least they’re doing what they can.
If one looks through Rumiko’s old art work, especially the earlier volumes of the manga, the way she draws her characters’ body proportions are more stocky and rounded, compared to the original anime. The original anime definitely made it so that all of the characters look aged up; they look much older compared to their manga counterparts.
It’s definitely a bit jarring, especially for those who grew up with the original anime (like moi), but not that much of a surprise. Other reboots like Sailor Moon and Cardcaptor Sakura have also done the same with their respective studios, so it’s only natural that Sunrise would follow suit.
Still, it’s no wonder the antis have been using it as one of their many basis for the Sessrin debacle, lol I get being uncomfortable with the ship and all, but peddling an argument based on new/updated animation that’s more of a technicality than anything else and drawing hasty conclusions from it...meh, I’ll stop right there. XD
Either way, just an observation to think about~
