Final Animated Documentary - The Indian Wedding

It’s unbelievable that I can complete a 40sec animation by myself.

Although the journey is tough, I’m really happy that I have gone through :)

Scene 12

I spent lots of time to work on drawing the 2D animation in scene 12.

I tried to make the talking animation more interesting, so I added the body movement and the hair animation.

I really like the result I had achieved.

Scene 9 and 10

I really like the idea of using the question marks to cover their faces.

This idea is inspired by a Japanese Drama called I’m Home, the story is about a man who loses his memories of anyone who is closed to him, so everyone has a mask on the face in the man’s view.

The inspiration for making the paper tied by a rope one head is from the Japanese Yokai culture. Here is an example from the anime Natsume's Book of Friends which is about Yokai. 

I think this idea is quite logical of how to use paper to cover the face.

Scene 6 - hand-drawn outline

A few days ago, I tried to make a 3D outline in Maya, however, I failed it at the end. (I tried to use svg to create.)

After I made the 2D style texture on 3D text, I think it is not enough, so I go back to 2D to draw the outline of the text.

I still use image sequence to present 2D hand-drawn art style.

In my animation, the camera will pass through the text, so I use Premiere to make the outline scale up and follow the movement.

Scene 3

The guests’ dresses.

I want to keep the colourful in this scene, so there are lots of colours on the dresses. I also want to show everyone would go to the wedding, so I try to draw lots of different families.

Scene 2

Scene 2 is a very important scene in my animation since it is the first colourful shots.

This is the style frame I made at the very early stage of production.

The vivid colours and shiny pieces of jewellery. Needing to be standing out from the background.

But I think it would be too boring if just the girl stands in front of the camera and talks, so I decided to make it even more dramatic. 

Then, I add the animation on her earrings, hair and the dress. I try to make the feeling of it is a magic that everything suddenly changes to the Indian world.

I really the movement of how the dress flies. Since I don’t have a suri, I was using roll paper to simulate the movement of flying.

Art Style Research 06

Gustav Klimt & Transistor

When I realised the pattern I drew for the background is quite similar to Gustav Klimt’s style, I decided to approach his style (colour using and patterns) on my background.

Transistor is the example I found of using Gustav Klimt’s style in their work. At the beginning,

I was not pretty sure how to approach his art style and keep my style at the same time. Then, Transistor’s art style made me understand it.

I picked up and wrote down some characteristics I like from Kilmt and chose the options I thought would be suitable to my animation.

Background

This is my initial background.

I also do a quick test if the character is in front of the background. However, I think something is weird or not enough.

Then I realised that the pattern I draw is quick similar to Klimt's art style. Maybe I should try his art style.

I try to use the colour Klimt use in his painting. I choose orange, yellow and blueish colours. I also do experiments on the density of the pattern.

After lots of adjustments, here is the final background and its test.
