I just needed to share this cause this was really bothering me

As someone who watches primarily dub, I’m defending myself because like people should be able to watch in whatever language they want for a show. We’re all watching the same show. We’re all enjoying the same content. We’re just watching it in different languages.

Some people have health concerns like dyslexia or bad eyesight, some people multitask while watching, and some people just wanna watch in dub. I say we just let the people watch what they wanna watch the way they wanna watch it.

Even as a dub watcher, I won’t complain if I watch something in sub. Like I’m watching Haikyuu! in sub. Not the end of the world.

I’m not trying to be rude, but I feel like it’s even ruder to say that someone watching a show meant for everyone in a different language is a red flag.

Think of that in a different context. Like miraculous ladybug for example. The whole show was created in France and is originally dubbed over in French (I think, you may correct me in the comments) but we watch it in English. That doesn’t mean we’re not enjoying the same thing.

If I read all my books in Spanish and someone read theirs in German, that’s not the end of world. We’re reading the same book, just in different ways.

This is really long winded now but my point is that you shouldn’t hate on someone for their preferences on what language they wanna watch something in. It’s dubbed over so that people can watch it like that and the VAs put a lot of hard work into that even if some people don’t think it turns out great. So we need to appreciate it just the same as we do the sub because the hard work is still there and we shouldn’t be sh!tting on that

I really gotta say that I will just never get used to the dub names in Digimon. Because Digimon is the series where, while I watched the German dub (that used the US dub names) of Adventure and 02 I largely grew up on the Japanese version. And like... I do know why they changed the names, but I also find the reason stupid as fuck. And like... I find it stupid with the kids. Because yes, even as a 10yo I could deal with non-German names existing. And also in Tamers (which is why I kinda stopped watching the dub there) it became like... actively silly. Why the hell did they change Takato Matsuda into Takato Matsuki? I know there is a reason, but... it is objectively stupid. And with Jianliang being renamed Henry, just all references in the show to people being fucking racist about his name automatically kinda just disappeared.

But also, I found it always so silly with a lot of the Digimon. I had always some understanding for "Hmm, we changed it because in English this has some unpleasant implications" and for "okay, this is a very specific Japanese pun that will not translate". But my understanding really ended when they somehow took Frontier and turned Chackmon and Fairymon into Kumamon and Kazemon. Just... Like. Why? How?
