NaAniTraMo scoring explained
Hi guys sorry for not posting anything 'cuz I'm on a tumblr sabbatical for November Anison Translation Month or #NaAniTraMo on AnimeLyrics. I need to write 40 anime song lyric translations in 30 days basically...
Origins of NaAniTraMo Scoring Way way WAAAAY before the days of reality TV in 1960, the national broadcasting company of my country started an annual singing competition which to this day is still being held for the 54th edition. (No, they don't get a recording contract if they win.) The format of the competition in the 90s (broadcasted live) was that the competitor would sing two songs back-to-back, one picked by the group of judges, and one by the own singer. I love the one compulsory, one selective kind of format and sometimes wish those reality singing competitions would do the same thing we did all those years ago.
Having had 2 editions of the 24-Hour Challenge (which also has a prestigious history) I'd thought that maybe expanding the challenge period would be better for the mind. (I got me dozing on the keyboard with the 24HC) So, seeing how NaNoWriMo has always been a great thing to collaborate on, I made my own version for anime songs called NaAniTraMo, with a format that was roughly taken from a 90's singing competition.
Terms
TN: Target Number A number declared before the competition starts amounting to the total number lyric submissions a translator would aim for before the competition period ends.
CS: Compulsory Set A list of songs declared before the competition starts, which numbers roughly half of the Target Number declared. FS: Freechoice Set A list of undeclared songs that the translator will translate on the fly. Finishing the Compulsory Set and the remaining amount in the Freechoice Set needed to sum to the Target Number would complete the challenge. Other stuff like the CS penalty is covered in the main thread.
Progress Post and Percentages
Throughout the competition, I put up a Progress Post to show everyone how much the translators have done but in percentage form. The percentage is calculated by this formula: Progress % = 2(Submitted CS) + (Submitted FS) --------------------------------- x 100% 2(CS) + FS
Basically the CS has a weight of twice that of FS. 2CS + FS, the divisor is called the aggregate. The weighting is needed because of the CS penalty: 2 FS songs as makeweight for an unattempted CS song
Example
A translator declares a TN of 24, with a CS of 12. Their aggregate is 36.
If they've done 3 CS songs and 7 FS songs: (3 x 2 + 7) / 36 = 13 / 36 = 0.3611... Converted to percentage, 36.1%. 10 CS and 14 FS: (10 x 2 + 14) / 36 = 34 / 36 = 0.944... Converted to percentage, 94.4%.
A translator's FS rate can be calculated by 1/aggregate x 100%. In the above example, the rate is about 2.7%, which means for every FS song they submit, the percentage rises 2.7%.
