I wish I could remember the name of this anime I randomly thought of.... The only thing I can remember is it was very eerie, odd, never really explained what was happening. There was this watchtower clock would ring every episode, kind of like it was leading to something. The anime's main character was a female, it had a green filter. I'll probably search for an hour or so
The Secret Behind Manga and Anime Character's Name
Most of us already know a lot of the really famous characters, Naruto: his name is actually a type of Japanese food you put it in ramen and he likes ramen. Dragon ball Gohan meaning rice and Goku named from monkey king from a classical Chinese novel.
But many of us doesn't know that many manga or anime character's names are not real at all. Some of them are just made up words/name and some are just author's favorite names. And in some manga like Death Note for example the author purposely avoids using real names especially for criminals, because he doesn't want to incovenience anyone who might have those same names in real life. And because Japanese is such a complex language when you get into kanji, a lot of anime character's names are actually plays in words or puns or kanji can have meaning describes the characters.
For example:
Sailor Moon.
Her name in Japanese is Usagi means "rabbit".And her family name is Tsukino, tsuki means "moon".
No (の) is like 's in english
In Japan last name go first so
Tsuki|no Usagi
"Moon's rabbit or Rabbit of the moon"
Another one is Sakura Haruno from Naruto
Sakura (given name) Haruno (last name)
Haruno Sakura
Haru|no Sakura
Spring| の('s) Cherry Blossoms
Spring's cherry blossoms or Cherry blossoms in the spring
Characters from Death Note
--Mainichi Asagi literally translated Everyday, next morning
--Nusumi Yonegorou - Nusumi literally translated sneak a look
--Kaneboshi Ginzou- i want money and i create silver
Evangelion:
Ikari- anchor
Anayami Rei- Anayami name of the destroyer
Soryu Asuka Langley- she's actually named after three separated ships. Soryu- aircraft carrier
Asuka- torped gunboat
Langey- USS Langley
Katsuragi Misato - Katsuragi aircraft carrier
Anime and manga characters who have names that aren't even anywhere close to real names in real life. Although often their names still do have meaning or just to make puns
One piece:
>Luffy
>Usopp
>Zoro
Dragonball:
>Bulma
>Krillin
>Vegeta
So for those who are thinking to use a manga or anime character's name for their child or something you might wanna search for the meaning first
