Honestly you two should not come to watch this movie with the mindset that it's the game because it's a different story. Even from the preview trailer from 2012 it was pretty clear it was a spin-off, so if you come to watch it expecting answers of the game you are up for disappointment.

It's like trying to read Pokemon Special to understand the Pokemon game. It is not complementary material, but a new take on an existing story like Dragon Nest: Shungeki no Seddo was.
