Anna Belle shares new song ‘Tokyo’
Anna Belle’s new single ‘Tokyo’ is her most heartfelt and honest yet. After performing this piano-based composition in local clubs and writer’s rounds for the past 8 months, she has finally put this ambient-yet-dynamic track into a tangible form for the world to hear. This is a dreamy soft pop ballad with bright, emphasized vocals inspired by artists like Enya, Janet Jackson, and Kate Bush.
This song was written, recorded, produced, and mixed on her own, determined to serve the track’s personal message of searching for belonging. Last year’s project, The Past, is an EP that reflects her passion for nostalgic, retro aesthetics and classic 80s pop styles. With ‘Tokyo,’ she wishes to increase her artistic range while exploring a more intimate side of her genre.
“I wrote this at 2am with the covers pulled over my head. Someone had told me my music would never fit in the Nashville market, the city where I’m studying, and my mind filled up with garbage. Very damaging thoughts. However, I clung onto the hope that somewhere else, there was a place for me, a place where I would fit-- and for some reason, Tokyo came to mind. I have never been nor do I have a distinct interest in Tokyo (despite being a K-pop fan and having so much respect for the culture of East Asia) but it felt colloquial and familiar, yet so far away. I was hoping this would be a song that actually connected with people and maybe gave listeners a sense of comfort if they are going through the same things I am right now.”
Had some fun, and by fun I mean the agony of three layers of different kinds of shading.
