Jo cursed his very existence every time he walked through that damn door. He’d come in, shoot her a wink and she’d slide him a beer, and that was it. He was off, flirting with anyone but her. He treated her like a kid sister if he bothered to look her way, and Jo was tired of it. She wasn’t a kid anymore, she was a damn woman and it was about time that moron saw it!

And here he was again. “Hey, kid.” He ruffled her hair on his way past her to the bar.

“One day, I’m gon’ shoot ya.” Jo mumbled as she quickly straightened her hair and went back to cleaning the table. Dean just laughed.

Dean got his drinks from Ellen, two, which Jo thought nothing of since it was usually him and Sam. But it was when Jo was back behind the bar, and Sam walked up for a drink that she got confused and looked for Dean. He was in a back corner table with a red headed woman.

“Who’s that?” She motioned with her chin as she opened Sam a beer and handed it to him.

“Anna.” Sam sighed.

“Never heard of her before.” Jo scoffed and looked away.

“New. We just met her. Angel.” The last word was whispered and her eyes met Sam’s, who just nodded, before Jo’s attention was back on the couple. Dean was sitting close, his knee up against hers, his arm across the back of her chair as he leaned closer and she laughed at his words. “I just hope they don’t fuck in the car again.” Sam groaned and took a swig. “The lingering sex smell is starting to give me a headache.”

“Well, he better not fuck her in my house.” Jo grumbled, turning away from Sam.

Jo had finally gotten to sleep when the sound of the shower woke her up.  Having the closest room to the bathroom had its perks. Tonight? UNDERAPPRECIATED FIC THURSDAY 

There are a lot of popular writers in this fandom which is awesome. But on the other side of things, there are a ton of writers who aren’t as recognized who are discouraged because they lack notes/likes/kudos/comments on their works. Let’s fix that! This is a list of my top underrated fics. 

A Batch Made in Heaven by watching_the_bees

When the rich Castiel Novak buys half of Dean’s bakery, he knows things aren’t going to work out. Castiel comes in with a plan to change nearly everything that makes A Batch Made in Heaven Dean’s, and while Dean resists at first, he soon realizes that maybe Castiel isn’t everything he’s taken him to be.

There is no reason why fans of the Dean x Cas relationship shouldn’t be reading this. It’s fluffy. It’s angsty. It’s about a bakery. What else could you want? I recall reading this awhile back and blanching at the lack of notes it has because it’s so perfect. Give it a go!

I will admit, I recently got into femslash fanfiction and I adore Jo/Anna. It’s a pairing I never wouldn’t of considered without fanfic, so thank you to the lovely writers who feature this pairing!

Why the Sea is Salt by ninjee

anna has always lived comfortably in the shoals and the gently lit underground caves, racing and playing treasure hunter with her brother castiel, and sneaking to the surface to watch as the humans sail on their enormous, beautiful boats. more than anything, anna wants to belong to the earth the way they do. castiel thinks she is only being childish, that her love for the humans will soon fade. anna is starting to think that maybe it might. that all changes when she meets jo, a blonde surfer who's been in and out of the water since she was three, who tells her stories about Above. the more of these stories she hears, the more she aches to be a part of them. and the more she sees of jo, well...

This was the first Jo/Anna fic I read and I fell in love with them right off the bat. The writing is perfect and beautiful, and I was wanting more when it was over. Anna’s a mermaid in this fic who wishes to be human, and Jo is the human who comes across her one day. They talk and fall in love and face the consequences of interspecies romance, but it ends with them together, which is a feat you don’t find in LGBT media often. Ugh, I just love it. 

We Are Stars by wincechesters

Anna is well on her way to assuming her place at her father's corporation when she runs away with nothing but a backpack full of clothes, her sketchbook and a wad of cash she's saved up and stolen from her father's safe. She doesn't know what she wants to do with her life, but knows she has to get away from her father's strict household and the plan he has for her. She doesn't make it very far before she meets Jo, a drifter spending her life on the road, making money off the deadbeats and truckers she hustles at dive bars. On a whim, Jo offers to drive her to California and Anna agrees. Even though they both know it's temporary—just until Jo gets Anna to California—they can't seem to stay out of each others' orbit. Somewhere between the breakdown in Oklahoma and a day spent hiking the Grand Canyon, they find themselves becoming more than just two girls on the same road trip.

Okay, I adore everything about this fic. Anna is running away from her father’s corporation and runs into Jo on the road. They decide that it’s easier for them to hitchhike together and go on a road trip, and end up falling in love along the way. There’s a relationship between Charlie x Dorothy too which is very adorable, even though they only come in towards the end. It’s worth it to read, especially if you aren’t usually a femslash reader!
