new fic: hope you are who you say
work i’m most proud of (and why):
The Unspeakable Four. After watching the movie Chef in 2023 I sat on that idea for at least a year until something finally sparked in me to work on it! I love that it's family oriented and lots of people really enjoy it! That makes me happy.
work i’m least proud of (and why):
not really least proud but your hands in the clouds I was incredibly nervous to write because of how I thought it might be perceived. I still really love it but I think maybe I would rewrite aspects of it. sometimes you have to go should just be longer.
share or describe a favorite comment you received:
Every time someone makes me laugh with a really funny comment is the best thing ever! Or making someone feel seen! I love those!
a time when writing was really, really hard:
all the time because it takes me forever to update (i'm sorry I love you)!
a scene or character you wrote that surprised you:
writing Sydney being so nurturing in your hands in the clouds was definitely a surprise to me. my own interests lie in Carmy taking care of Sydney because she's constantly caring for everyone else but I think giving them that moment of a different kind of (non sexual) intimacy and Sydney allowing herself to be vulnerable with Carmy by taking care of him in an established relationship was really sweet and uncharacteristic of me to write her being that soft with him. very much a "my man my man my man" fic lmao
a favorite excerpt of your writing:
this is the first that comes to mind as of recent. I feel like this sums up Sydney and Carmy's dynamic really well.
“I mean I have an idea, but I need to be in control of this kitchen, of this, apprentice. Telling her isn’t going to help. I mean something to her. What I’ve done means something.”
“She doesn’t really sound like she’s going to bend to your control, Carm or like she’ll care. That’s your problem, you want to control everything and you can’t.”
“She hasn’t even signed the agreement.” He drops his fork on the plate and smooths his hand over his face.
“What? Wait. No, she didn’t.” Natalie scrolls through her email.
“Mother fuck, how did this get past me? How did it get past you? You sent her the acceptance message.”
“I did. I– I um, I wanted her here, Sug.”
“Oh.” Something like realization peppers her response and he rushes to correct any ideas that may have started forming in her overwrought head.
“Not like that. I wanted to work with her. She reminds me of... me. When I first got started.”
“Like she’s running away from something.”
“Like she’s running to it.”
how did you grow as a writer:
I hope that with hope you are who you say that these two are more in character. That you hear more of their canonical voices even though they aren't in a canonical situation. I love writing aus because I can kinda bend them to do as I please but here I want them to at least sound like themselves and have the same reservations so I hope that really comes across.
same as above, just making sure my voices sound like them even in situations that aren't very canonical.
who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer, beta, cheerleader, etc.):
@sydneys-adamu @sutherlins @turbulenthandholding holding me down and also my greatest sources of inspiration!
anything from your real life show up in your writing:
any new wisdom you can share with other writers:
write and publish! who gives a fuck! you have a story to tell! be fearless!
any projects you’re looking to starting (or finishing):
Still trucking through hope you are who you say and I have a couple secret projects coming up and I also hope that I can write a couple more things before s5!
