I'm still thinking about this, lol. I love how the dynamics are so different here-- like Laurent isn't starting off angry with Damen, and he actually *likes* him, and this is going to create such an awkward and crappy situation. I think *Laurent* is going to feel genuinely bad about that, lol. Not as horrible as Damen is about to feel, but...omg.

I also love how the situation really doesn't make Damen look bad at all. Laurent showed his ID at the bar, and was pretty much in all ways acting like an adult. There wasn't anything ambiguous there. But now Damen's going to assume it was a fake (it's not like Laurent looks like a cop or something-- is he a journalist??? ) Like...do you try to have a conversation? Do you pretend it never happened??? What's a responsible person who cares about boundaries to do???

The situation is mostly crappy for Damen’s reputation (which means a lot in his profession, this kind of thing, even if it’s just a rumor and it’s proven to not be true, could ruin him) and it’s potential to expose Laurent’s operation (and therefore screw up his career too.) I’m working on the next day at school now, and Damen’s kind of going from panic to suspicion to trying to justify what happened to himself. He’s not getting much work done. Kids are watching movies in his classes today. Laurent, on the other hand, doesn’t have time to contemplate things. He’s on the job. He’s gotta get in with the delinquent crowd so he can find this juvenile drug ring!

I mean, a lot of this fic is an excuse to write a student/teacher fic. So I don’t have a super deep plot going either.

Danny is the greatest. 'He had great admiration for Jerrott's reputation, his appearance, and his wife, but he had yet to be impressed by his acumen.' I didn't get the impression that Danny had a crush on Lymond per se though-- but he does feel threatened that his little found-family has a member he never met who predates him. Bless Jerrott's oblivious heart.

I think that's more it to be honest. I wouldn't necessarily define it as an actual crush, more that Danny has defined part of his place in the group as "the one who would be totally down to have sex with Lymond" and then suddenly Jerott's there getting in his way.

I’m sure there would be tons of interest. You could also consider putting up a tip jar/ buy coffee option- you might get enough from that alone. Or, sell some of your songs? If that’s even feasible? I would pay money for a downloadable copy of Losing the Culture War for sure

oh man, i would love to sell my songs! i’ve been meaning to put up a bunch of stuff on ye old bandcamp page anyway. which version of Culture War would you prefer, the original or the 2016 revision?

I really love the Rogue One fic you're writing--they're both incredible. The movie was so action-packed that it was difficult for me to get a sense for the characters, but the way you portray them feels very accurate, and totally sells me on the ship. In the first chapter of the Han fic, he complains internally that Cassien isn't jealous of his friendship with Jyn. Do you think he just can't read Cassien, or is the J/C marriage really that unshakable? Or is it just not in Cassien's personality?

Yes, Han is right about Cassian! In that instance, anyway (lol). Cassian is quite genuinely indifferent to Jyn’s friendships as long as they don’t involve Imperial collaborators. 

It’s a bit Column A and Column B. Cassian isn’t the jealous type to begin with, and their relationship is pretty much impervious to anything but outright betrayal. Not that they don’t have their problems, but distrust isn’t one of them—at this point, their mutual trust is absolutely ironclad. Jealousy doesn’t really occur to them, except over very trivial things (why did Dameron get eight days leave and I only got three????? FML).

But also … well, apart from Kay, Cassian has had no significant relationships of any kind since he violently lost everyone he loved at the age of six. So on the one hand, a significant portion of his ideas about How One Navigates Relationships was shaped by a robot. And on the other, he never anticipated being anything to another living person, ever, not even a friend. Having Jyn in his life at all wildly exceeds whatever expectations he would have had, if he’d let himself expect anything. Jyn loving him, marrying him, is … dazzling, really. 

So when she says she went out drinking and playing sabacc with the pilots while he was doing whatever, Cassian is just like, “Did you win?”

(Jyn: *drops a pile of credits* Get yourself a new coat.)

Do you by any chance have a mellow song you'd recommend today? I don't mean to use you as a human pandora-radio, but you've turned me onto some of my now-favorite musicians over the last few years. And today could use some mellow.

did you see the one with the casita? most of house hunters is unbearable, but the occasional really cute couples make it almost worth it

we actually did watch that episode! yeah, that family seemed nice. you got the impression the husband and wife actually liked each other, which is always, y’know, nice.

Honestly, all of their interactions were so good. I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about Lymond/Philippa, but they really do play off each other so well.

I held off to read a Discworld between them, because I have a feeling it's going to be painful, but I'll probably start Checkmate in a day or two.

I was betting you'd go with a black and white color palette for this one!!! It's as lonely and isolating but still beautiful as the Russia chapters felt. Gorgeous photoset as always. These are the book covers the books *should* have. Did you have any trouble reconciling the Tudor court bits? Philippa's girl-detective act was so much fun next to the Russia chapters which were just...agonizing

I actually liked the Tudor court sections a lot more than the Russian, but for the graphic I decided to focus more on the Russian side. Philippa is always a joy, and I loved seeing her using what she learned in Turkey to play the court.
