I am now working on a modern Maurice fic on AO3. It is set in 2025 and tells the reader all about Clive´s messy domestic life. He is happily married to Anne, but he has relationships with Maurice and Alec as well, which she accepts, clearly for her own good reasons.
But it´s not all fun and sunshine for Clive. He constantly has to put up with his old mother´s crazy antics.
This is a light and humorous read with a happy ending, albeit very spicy and daring. Kudos and comments will be most appreciated.

Maurice analysis time as I'm currently watching the film.
Anne Durham is a lot more intelligent than people give her credit for. She calls out Maurice and in turn Clive for their narrow-mindedness when it comes to their views of the poor. Outright calling them both horrible. She refers to Nietzsche when she talks to Maurice about his views in the book. We also see that she is someone who is incredibly empathetic catching on to the feelings of various characters. Whether it be obvious like Maurice's state of anxiety after the cricket match in the book or more subtle like Clive's feelings of confusion and loss in the film towards the end, laying her head on his shoulder as a sign of comfort.
I really, genuinely like Anne. As in we would be best friends in real life (or dating. Who knows. She didn't look at Clive when he was changing. She sure didn't mind the broke. I'm just saying.)
Usually when they bring a woman into a gay story the viewers would either be sorry for her or absolutely hate her, but Anne carried her own weight in the story, she really had her personality fully fleshed out and she was a real person with quirks and values that I came to love. It's rare to see such attention to details in a political topic portrayed in media (especially in the context of the film and the book), which is all the more reason why Maurice is so much more than another piece of queer artwork. It's full of humanity.
Y'all know I don't like Clive. I kinda resent him for putting Anne in that position, but honestly apart from their sex life, they looked like they got along well otherwise.
After the film’s events, Clive decides to isolate himself from the rest of the world. His wife, after listening to the advice of an obnoxious friend, tries to find him a male friend to spend time with.
Much to his surprise, who ends up befriending the boy is Anne Durham herself, who invites him over more and more often. This young man eventually shows a sarcastic and cruel second nature towards Clive, who can't help but be drawn to his failed attempts to tease him.
This man is Percival Darsey, a 22-years-old boy who ran away from home in order to find a life as a dramaturg. Without studies and without friends. His delicate and accidentally sensual gestures awaken Clive’s feelings that contrast with his ideas about strictly platonic love between men.

this fanfic will have a happy ending of course and i hope i can get clive’s character good. the chapters will be a little long so keep that in mind, ill try to upload weekly and ill try to keep everything SFW !!!!!
