Anne Senstad is a multi-disciplinary artist from Norway, who works in sculptural installations examining light, sound, and color. JG Thirlwell has provided the sound environment for many of her pieces.

A new book, Neon Guides Me, chronicles her work, and on Nov 5 2022 there will be an event at The Emily Harvey Foundation in NYC to celebrate the publication. Anne Senstad, JG Thirlwell and  Brooklyn Rail editior Tom McGlyn will have a panel discussion, followed by a video talk with publisher Praun & Guermouche, and a neon installation on view.

The Emily Harvey Foundation, 537 Broadway #2 NYC 10012. The event is from 4pm-6pm and the panel discussion happens at 4.15pm. Free admission.

Happy New Year. Thanks to everyone for their support in another difficult and tumultuous year. I am grateful for you all, and I am grateful for my health, a roof over my head and for the majesty of music. Time for a moment of reflection. In 2021, I completed work on scoring Archer Season 12. The second Xordox album, Omniverse, was released on Editions Mego, along with an epic video created by Benjamin Maddox and myself. In the “serious” music realm of my work, I completed a mammoth commission for Alarm Will Sound, which will premiere in 2022. And I completed a new major composition for string quartet. I then recorded an album of my string quartets with Mivos Quartet, which will be mixed in January with a view to a 2022 release. Two of Anne Senstad’s sculptural light installations, for which I do sound and music, were installed in Finland and Norway. I had a solo site specific sound installation in Visby, Gotland. And I had an amazing road trip through the midwest in the fall with my partner Dora. Tragically, we lost friends and colleagues Anita Lane, Peter Rehberg and Richard H.Kirk. On the performance front. JG Thirlwell & Ensemble played at Roulette. I performed my Silver Mantis project at Elastic Arts in Chicago. And Xordox opened for Itchy O in Denver. I performed some songs with a huge symphonic version of Tredici Bacci in December. And I joined Alan Licht, Keith Fullerton Whitman, MV Carbon, Laura Ortman and Seth Cluett in an ensemble performance on Intonarumori instruments, directed by Luciano Chessa. And for the future? I just began work on Archer Season 13. The first Archer soundtrack will be released via Iam8bit in 2022. I’ll be creating the musical score for the Venture Bros movie. Also in 2022 look for the long-delayed reissue of the Foetus album ACHE in white vinyl. The new Tredici Bacci album should finally drop in 2022, which contains two songs I co-wrote with Simon Hanes, and a Foetus cover. Simon and I also have a whole album of songs written for the female voice, which we are still slowly recording. I’ll be finally releasing the final installment of my first art print series. Happy Holidays.

Thanks to everyone for their support in this most difficult and tumultuous year. I am grateful for my health, a roof over my head and for music. I am grateful for you all. My time in lockdown was actually busier than ever - I completed work on scoring Archer Season 11. Dicktown, another animated show which I scored, premiered on FX. I completed Oscillospira, an epic collaboration with Simon Steensland, which was released on Ipecac Records. I launched Ectopic Ents in Bandcamp. In the “serious” music realm of my work, I completed a graphic score commission for Decibel New Music Ensemble. I created an arrangement of William Basinski’s “Disintegration Loops IV” for chamber orchestra. I got about halfway through a major commission for Alarm Will Sound, which will premiere in 2021. And I worked on two new compositions for string quartet. I created the soundscape for Anne Senstad’s immense Radical Light installation in Tallinn, and worked as audio consultant on several of her short films. I also worked on several symphonic arrangements of Foetus compositions with Simon Hanes, working long distance via Skype. We also worked up some new arrangements of material for JG Thirlwell + Ensemble. I completed work on the second Xordox album, which is now in production and will be released on Editions Mego in 2021. I wrote a bunch of material for Melvins, which I hope crystallizes one day. I collaborated on a track with Rabit. I contributed to the new Matmos album, Freq_out returned with an ambitious new model. I was asked to mix some songs for a highly regarded group which will be revealed at a later date. 2020 saw the release of the Hal Willner-produced Marc Bolan tribute album, on which I made arrangements of songs for Marc Almond and Emily Haines. Tragically, we lost Hal to the Covid 19 pandemic, along with over a million worldwide and counting.

On the performance front. the JG Thirlwell & Ensemble London show was postponed (twice). Some big career retrospective concerts for the Melbourne Festival were postponed.

And for the future? I just began work on Archer Season 12. I hope to release the first Archer soundtrack in 2021. I’ll be recording an album of my string quartets with Mivos Quartet as soon as it’s safe (we were originally scheduled to make this recording in September 2020). Also in 2021, look for the reissue of the Foetus album ACHE in white vinyl. The new Tredici Bacci album should drop in 2021, which contains two songs I co-wrote with Simon Hanes, and a Foetus cover (!). Simon and I also have a whole album of songs written for the female voice, which we are slowly recording. I’ll be releasing the final installment of my first art print series. And I am also itching to finally release the "Cholera Nocebo" album. I have started on a third Xordox album. I have also started work on new Foetus material, some of which I hope to record with orchestra, with a view to a 2025 release.

Anne Senstad‘s video installation Time Beyond Place, which is scored by JG Thirlwell, will open at the K4 Galleri, Københavngata, 4 Oslo, Norway 0553 on Sept 29 2017.

Time Beyond Place presents a visual narrative of artists Ghada Da , Zahrah Alghamdi, Anne Senstad and Jameela Mater’s thematic engagements in Asiri cultural history.

The initiative Time Beyond Place – The Cultural Bridge was established by Anne Senstad in Saudi Arabia as an all-women cross cultural art production platform examining ways of responding to preservation of cultural heritage, vernacular architecture, memory and domesticity through contemporary art practices.

Anne Senstad‘s installation film “Swamp”, which is soundtracked by JG Thirlwell, will screen at ArtBasel Fair in Miami from Dec 2-5, 2015. It is in a program entitled Decomposing Hierarchies , also including works by Catherine Page Harris, Orit Ben-Shitrit, Margeaux Walter Studio, and Jeannette Ehlers. It’s all part of a larger program entitled Form and Substance : A Projection, Mapping and Light Exhibition and will take place at the iconic InterContinental in Miami.
