If Shang Qinghua tilted his head and squinted, Shizun was probably the closest thing he had to a father figure. This was a pretty fucking sad state of affairs, considering Shang Qinghua hadn't been promoted until he was -- what? How old was he? Eighteen? Nineteen? Twenty, twenty-one, who even cared?

The point was that Shizun hadn't paid Shang Qinghua any individualized attention until he'd been, at the very least, a core disciple, and at that point, Shang Qinghua was pretty damn grown. When you were grown, you didn't need a father figure. When you were an adult, you outgrew fathers. You had to; you didn't have a choice. You turned eighteen and then your dad gave up the illusion that he ever wanted you to begin with. If you still needed a dad at that point, then you were pretty screwed, weren't you?

But I'm actually obsessed with Joel building their Relation-ship out of wool and dark oak. Like, wool, the thing Etho's 3l base was made of that absolutely burned to pieces? Dark oak, the tree Etho has had in the past two seasons, the burning of which is the only thing that triggered Etho to really be enraged? Like Joel set up a perfect situation for Etho to absolutely go off when their base, which they knew was highly flammable, burned down.

I love the story idea of Joel setting this up so Etho would have the rage to act rather than hide as a red name.
