As the first human to join the space force, you were expecting a lot of harassment and mocking. What you weren’t expecting, was how excited everyone was to have you there, and how much they seem to look out for, and up to, you. They all seem to find humans amazing.

In your family, it is strictly forbidden for anyone to go into the basement, your parents being the only ones allowed down there. One day, while home alone, you realise they have left the door slightly open, and curiosity gets the best of you. When you head down the stairs, you find weapons lining the walls, as well as strange writing and texts. When you finally reach the main area of the basement, you’re confronted by a door way in the middle of the room, glowing and swirling from within. It releases a constant low humming sound. 

Hearing a soft scuffing sound, you feel your heart stop for a moment, terrified that your stern and somewhat scary parents have caught you. Upon turning towards the noise however, you find frightened and pained eyes meeting yours. Someone sits cramped in a cage that is far too small for their tall frame, clutching a wound that oozes a glittering silvery blood. You can tell before you even see the blood, that they are far from human.

“P-please....help me...or kill me... just. Please.” They rasp out painfully.

Humanity was nearly wiped out in some massive catastrophe, though the rumours as to what that was, vary. The remaining humans, created a super city, surrounded by walls taller than the buildings themselves, and topped with a specialised dome designed to filter the air and sunlight into something survivable. The upper class all live in luxury, with high quality tech made readily available. The lower class though, struggle to survive in the harsh conditions, forced to do heavy, dangerous, and dirty work to survive. Any who complain are quickly told that they should be grateful for the lives they do have, as life in the city is the only thing there is, the outside too inhospitable for people to survive.

It is as you are searching the very furthest border of your section of the city, looking for anything that can help you and your group survive another week, that you find the breach. It takes some careful climbing, but you manage to get down to where the breach sits, so very well hidden. To your shock, you find no wasteland or toxic earth, but instead the ruins of what once was, now reclaimed by thriving nature and animals, the air pure and clearer than you have ever felt.

A war of some sort has broken out across the globe, almost everyone seemingly taking up arms. You’ve spent the past two weeks hiding away in your house, binge watching your favourite shows and oblivious to the chaos. Now that you’ve eaten everything in the house, you step outside for the first time, having no idea about the war and what ever it is everyone, including your neighbours, are fighting about.
