but given the chance for redemption? the compassion given by 4 along with a couple other factors like The World Ending Again gave him an opportunity to show that he had grown as a person
and he followed through
very far actually, to the point of even independently staying on a death mission during igbp to save 4
something that he wouldn't have done like 2 years ago
you can see he cares a lot during the stream which always makes me want to shoot james in the bavk of the head for voice acting so well

he was given that opportunity, to push aside his selfishness and violent tendencies
AND HE ABUSED IT TO GET WHAT HE WANTED

3 would never let his selfishness get in tge way of helping his friends (in high stakes situations. the deforestation episode shows that he likes to mess with them when it doesn't put anyone in danger)
in you used to be cool, 3 is being evil and freaky or whatever, but the MOMENT he's tasked with killing 4, he just can't bring himself to do it
he doesn't care when eggman (i think?) points the gun at him, but when he points it at 4 his expression visibly changes and he defends him
and in the puzzle park episode or whatever before wotfi, before he gets sent to hell or whatever, he STOPS STRUGGLING AND TEXTS 4 AND MARIO TO RUN
WPNZ went halfway, he got the kids and proved he had changed, only to send them immediately into danger because that's what he wanted the whole time
