🍭: why did you start writing?

ooo this is a hard one. i don't really know why because i don't really know when. i guess i've just always just loved to write?? it's hard to pinpoint, but you can trace me back all the way to the wattpad days in good ole 2012. but i didn't really start writing what i consider actual fanfic until high school when i discovered ao3. i got really into reading fic my freshman year (mostly gravity falls fics) and then i fell in love with the mcu and decided to write my first gotg fic on ao3 my junior year of high school.

as far as fanfic goes, i guess the main reason why i write is that i love fandom!! i've owned editing accounts and have always loved engaging in fandom culture, so i guess bringing my love of writing into it just made the most sense. that, and characters weed their way into my head and it's hard to get them out. there's canon i need expanded upon and fix-its to make, people!!

but fanfic isn't all i like to write! i studied journalism as a minor in college and had a pretty steady freelance gig for a minute. i also love poetry (i just wish i was better at it lol)

💕: what's the most important part of a story for you? the plot, the characters, the worldbuilding, the technical stuff (grammar etc), the figurative language

the characters most definitely. all that other stuff is mega important too but i won't even consider writing a fic if i don't cherish the characters i'm writing for. i really, really try to nail character voices. it's my main focus, and since i write third person limited mostly, i try my best to get in the head of the specific character i'm writing for.

when i get to writing a chapter (especially true for my wip), i ask myself which character's POV would make for the most compelling story, and that's the one i'll go for. sometimes i'll even start in Character A's pov and then realize halfway through that it isn't nearly as compelling as it would be if it were from the perspective of Character B, and then i have to start again from scratch :( i take my characters SERIOUSLY!

it makes for a fun process trying to figure it out. ttwl is the first fic where i've regularly switched POVs (sometimes in the same chapter), and it's made writing it really fun!

💘: is there any posted fic you want to rework/re-edit/re-write?

probably my first long fic, mercy no more. it's a guardians of the galaxy post-endgame fix-it fic. i started it because i just adore starmora and was gut-wrenched after endgame. the reason why i'd like to rework/re-edit it is because i had absolutely zero clue where it was going when i started. i had shockingly little direction. i'm honestly surprised that i finished it and that it developed into a coherent storyline that i can feel somewhat proud of. i'd probably add a few more chapters and drag things out longer than i did. i'd also probably have a field day picking at the grammar and syntax.

i'd probably never do this though in reality. gotg is a dying fandom sadly and i feel like i'd kinda just be wasting my time reworking it. some people still leave kudos every now and again though. maybe it's due for a reread soon.

2. so i’m most excited for this one natasha fic i’m mentally working on at the moment. the reader is a lady and natasha is a knight, and it’s… it’s definitely gonna be fun playing around with this one. i’m so ready for all the emotions that are gonna come with this one, the good and the not so good!

5. the most challenging one i have right now is this werewolf!steve, witch!reader fic i have going on… steve is just kinda hard to write in general and then i had to throw my love for the supernatural in- so, it’s my fault really 💀

6. ngl cardigan made me very upset. i know that’s not a wip, but that one made me upset. um… thinking about the angst that i’m gonna have in the knight!natasha fic makes me tear up a little, but i know that i can’t write a sad ending so we’ll be fine in the end lmaooo

5. Favorite book from a genre you don’t usually like?Probably An Abundance of Katherines, by John Green. I almost didn’t pick it up because it had a “romance” sticker on the side, and in general I’m not the world’s biggest fan of strictly-realistic fiction.

20. Least favorite book?The Time Traveler’s Wife, by Audrey Niffenegger, hands-down. It was (as you know) required reading in AP Lit and I hated it. It was overly crass, showed too much, and messed with my head – AND made some of my personal/internal struggles harder to fight. I am NOT a fan of explicit sex scenes and having them in a required reading book was just bad news.

23. What are you reading right now?For homework, I’m reading Plato’s Apologia Socratis, but obviously homework is another matter (I could list all my thesis books…). Currently, the books I’m working through are The Religious Sense, by Luigi Giussani, Shadow and Claw, by Gene Wolfe, and Difficulties in Mental Prayer by Eugene Boylan. I’m also beta-reading for a few friends, and overdue for an Anathem (Neal Stephenson) re-read.

34. Series you wish had never ended? …not to sound like a cop-out, but probably Harry Potter. The universe has so many ways of expanding, and I am super happy that JKR is doing so – but I definitely would’ve followed the Potters and the Weasleys to hell and back if that’s where she wrote them.

1. My favourite holiday is (surprise, surprise) Halloween. I haven’t repeated a costume in 22 years and am not planning on starting any time soon! I credit my love of Halloween for my love of cosplay.

2. As anyone who knows me can suss out quickly, my favourite colour is purple. As it turns out, my mom’s favourite colour is also purple, but she’d been in such fear of “taking” it from me that she never said anything. I, being an idiot, didn’t actually figure this out until somewhere in college. (Shameful, I know.) So now I get her purple things because what madness is it that she’d be “taking” my favourite colour that is NONSENSE.

Let's see... my first ever toy as a kid was a Rainbow Brite pillow my mom sewed together from a kit. She was about 2 feet high, and basically a doll without any moving parts (you know, a pillow). I loved her dearly.
