Michael Peter Balzary (born October 16, 1962), known professionally as Flea, is a musician, singer, and actor. He is best known as the ( mostly shirtless) bassist, and founding member of the band Red Hot Chilli Peppers. He filled in on bass for a number of other bands as well. While playing Flea incorporates elements of funk, psychedelic punk, and hard rock. In 2009 Rolling Stone Magazine readers ranked him as the second best bassist of all time, only behind The Who’s John Entwisle. Flea is a skilled musician not only playing the bass but, the trumpet and piano as well. In 2012 he and the other members of The Red Hot Chilli Peppers were inducted into The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Outside of playing music Flea has appeared in over 20 films and television series. Flea is the co-founder of Silverlake Conservatory of Music, a non-profit music education organization for underprivileged children. He has released a memoir about his life prior to joining The Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Flea is an exciting and talented musician to listen and to and watch perform.
