Red Dead Online: Italian Language Tips for Your Blood Money Fics / HCs

If you’re interested in featuring Guido Martelli, Angelo Bronte, or other members of the Saint Denis Italian crime syndicate in your fics, headcanons, or other writing, here are a few ideas for integrating Italian words and phrases!

Signore (see-NYOR-ay*) is used like “sir” in English; it is slightly different from Signor (see-NYOR) which is used as a title (i.e., you would say “Signor Bronte”, but when speaking to Bronte you would address him as “Signore”).

Signora (see-NYOR-ah) is ma’am or the title Mrs., and Signorina (see-nyor-EE-na) is miss, or the title Miss. 

Capo (CAH-poh) is used like “boss”.

Subito (SOO-bee-toh) means “right away”; often used as an affirmative response to a command given to you.

“In bocca al lupo” (een BOH-cah ahl LOO-poh) is a phrase used like “break a leg”, used to wish someone luck when heading into dangerous situations (the idea is the same, where you don’t want to jinx it by wishing them good luck). It literally translates to “into the wolf’s mouth.” When someone says to you “In bocca al lupo,” you are supposed to respond “Crepi il lupo” (CRAY-pee eel LOO-poh) or “Crepi” (”May the wolf die” / “Die”).

*The Italian consonant blend “gn” makes a sound a little like “nyah.” Best way I can describe it is what you do after the L sound when you say “million”.
