I came up with something for my fantasy universe.
Ok, so like, there are shapeshifters in my universe, and for a long while, it was just those that could turn into animals. But that posed a big problem for this story of mine where a shapeshifting knight oc of mine got accused of murder bc the villain shapeshifted as her (or had someone else do it idk) to plant false evidence. And that REALLY struggled me and I kept trying to come up with convincing ways as to HOW would this person have the ability to shapeshift into other people and not animals since animal shapeshifters are, well, the shapeshifters? And idk WHY it took me so long to figure it out, BUT BITCHES I FINALLY DID.
Ok, so we're splitting the shapeshifters into two categories: Anthromorphs and theriomorphs. Anthromorphs are those that can turn into other people and living beings (and with enough practice even into objects) while theriomorphs are those that can only turn into animals. One animal, unfortunately for them. They both fall under the shapeshifting umbrella.
