生魚片總是在日本料理店出現。生魚片又稱魚生，在日本、台灣、中國與韓國，都有魚生的吃法。日本稱生魚片為刺身(さしみ)，日本、台灣、中國與韓國稱魚膾。《禮記》又有：「膾，春用蔥，秋用芥」。「膾炙人口」的由來，原意是指膾炙的美味，後來指作品受歡迎和為人熟悉。

Sashimi, also known as fish, is eaten in Japan, Taiwan, China and Korea. Japan refers to sashimi as a sashimi, and Japan, Taiwan, China and South Korea call it a Fishing rod. "Book of Rites" has the following: "Fishing rod, spring onions, autumn mustard", the origin of "population", the original meaning refers to the deliciousness of the cockroach, and later the work is popular and familiar.
