kinda weird how mal's personality throughout tgt is basically romanticising poverty and guilt-tripping alina for wanting more, with a little sprinkle of eat the rich whenever his fragile male ego got hurt when he has to interact with men supposedly higher in status than him. but by the end of the book, he was rewarded that same rich and wealth he used to shit on daily, even able to play faux duke now while living amongst actual poor people in keramzin. not to mention that all bardugo's characters end up being rich and wealthy too. further proves that even the author herself doesn't really believe in ordinary life and ordinary things lol.

Okay I have two things to talk about.

First, where and how do they get candy on the Isle? And is it only certain types? (Later they imply that Carlos has never tasted chocolate before.) I'm also very curious as to how the Isle gets access to certain foods, and how some people have access to foods that others don't. (Like how in D3 Gil mentions never having fruit before.)

Second, it doesn't sit right with me how genuinely scared this child seems to be of Mal. Yeah whatever, she's stealing candy from a baby, haha, but this kid puts up no resistance whatsoever, won't even make eye contact with her. Which probably means she's done this before, or something similar to it, or someone else has. Once again, they are living in food scarcity. She is taking a child's food. (Yes, I know it's candy. That might be the only thing that kid has access to right now.) Maybe this is just me but I don't think terrorizing toddlers or making them go hungry is all that funny.

like wdym you made the VILLAIN of the series the guy who watched oppression and genocide and the death of his people over and over again while the main protagonist teams up with the kingdom that uses grisha as weapons to take him down 😂😂

I only read the series once yearsssss ago so that may be an over generalization lol

but I was unimpressed. the main girl is legit a white blonde girl with sunshine powers who goes "noooo power is baaaad and it corrupts" who then ends up in a relationship with her piece of shit childhood friend

the show was at least better in making both Alina and Mal more interesting 😂
