I saw someone on twitter going off about ‘fandom history’ and I know I bring this up but I really feel like people forgot how godawful the Bronies were.

Back before Tumblr did the porn ban, there was pony porn everywhere and it wasn’t just the mane six, it was all the characters. Including underaged characters like Apple Bloom. Even the Cake twins, who are babies in the series, had porn.

I wish I was joking.

The worst part was if you spoke up about being uncomfortable with this, you were told to shut up. People said it was a valid kink! And to make matters worse people had no issues with shipping the Apple siblings. One of my favorite characters is Big Mac and I used to hate searching for art of him because there were always pictures of him making out with his sister. 

There was tons of Nazi art, rape stuff, overly gory fan content and that isn’t even scratching the surface. 

Fandom still has it problems but it’s gotten better because now people are at least trying to hold other people accountable. And to be honest, I’m sorry but if you’re an adult and you’re in a fandom, you need to be held accountable. You need to stop acting as if your actions exist in a bubble because they don’t. This goes double for adults in fandoms meant for kids.

Scootaloo from My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is disabled. Scootaloo will always be disabled, and it would not be inspiring for her to suddenly become abled. It would just show to disabled people (like me!) that they need to defy reality and become abled to be whole, which isn’t the message Lauren Faust wanted to send out. Besides , Scootaloo is perfectly okay without the ability to fly. Scootaloo being ashamed throughout the series of her disability isn’t a story of overcoming her wings not working, it’s a story of accepting that they don’t work and loving herself for it. I’d like to think that when Scootaloo grew up eventually she came to the conclusion that she should embrace her identity, who she is, without flying. So should you.

Like the only fandom I really dislike is bronies. Not MLP fans, bronies. And that is solely because a group of them harassed a teenaged girl and saw no problem with what they were doing.

Why is it that with every cartoon, there’s almost always perverts behind it? (Like the ROTTMNT freaks that drew that porn)

Because for the longest time, people allowed fandom to be a nightmare. So here's the thing: before the MLP fall out, fandoms were worse than they are now. Here's the thing, I think what happened with bronies needed to happen so people would wake up and be like, "Okay, we need to stop this." I feel like since a lot of fandom drama takes place on the internet, there was this idea that it didn't matter nor did we need to take it seriously. Of course, we've learned over time that just because something happens on the internet, it doesn't mean that it's not important nor does it mean that it's harmless. And because of that, we still have people who have zero issues with drawing sexual pictures of minors. 

Another issue is I think there is a fear of speaking out against people in the animation industry. That is what happened with John Kricfalusi, the guy who created Ren and Stimpy. Like back then, there weren't that many jobs for animators so the reason John was able to be such a monster of a person was that people were terrified of him. They didn't want to lose their jobs and their means of carving out a living. I might be rambling but does this make any sense?

Another reason I left the MLP fandom was it was just damn near impossible to find normal pony art. 95% of it was porn. And I’m going, to be honest, I was totally fine with people drawing sexy pony art as long as they made sure minors didn’t find it. Then when it turned out that some little girl found Molesita, I was gone.

And what bothered me the most was that people just didn’t really seem to give a damn. Their boners were more important than the safety of children apparently.

Same. And honestly, I’m glad that Brony-con is over and it’s not happening again.

One part of the brony fandom i really hated was that if you dared to make a humanized version of the mane six that wasn't white and skinny you would get hate. I used to go on i think it was called ponibooru and there was really beautiful fanart of the humanized mane six because twilight sparkle was black it was downvoted to hell

YES! I HATED THAT TOO!I'm never going to forget this but I paid for someone to draw Big Mac with Zecora. They were both human and Zecora was pregnant with Big Mac kissing her pregnant belly. It was supposed to be cute, ya know? They're excepting a baby and they're happy.I posted on ponibooru and the first reply was, "Why is she nigger?"I was furious. Like are you kidding me!? Zecora is a zebra of course, that means she's from Africa and so she would be black. And even if she wasn't a zebra, what was wrong with me picturing her as a black woman? Yet I never saw people posting on humanizations where ponies were white asking why are they cracker.

Hey Rooty, you said you used to be a brony. Why aren't you one anymore?

Because it became such a nightmare anon.

So MLP came out I believe 9 years ago and I was in my early 20s. Like many people with Aspergers, I was behind. Like it took me a while to finally get my driver’s license and getting a job took a while too. I also sometimes felt alone because I couldn’t always hang out with my friends.

Thank goodness for the internet, am I right?

I discovered the show and of course, I discovered bronies.

I thought these people were my friends and I thought the community was great but slowly, it just became hard to enjoy. I had nothing against people finding the ponies attractive (I had a small crush on Big Mac, who am I to judge) but there were people who were legitimately in love with these ponies. I remember there was one guy who didn’t like me because I shipped Rarity with Big Mac. When I asked why, he said it was because he was madly in love with Rarity.

I’m sorry what?

Like I try not to judge but----well she’s not real. You can’t really be in love with a character that isn’t real. I’m not saying you can’t self ship but this guy was acting like no one could ship her with anyone.

And let’s not forget the man who claimed Twilight Sparkle was his fiance.

God, I wish I was joking about that.

It was like as the fandom went on, things got worse. Racism was a huge thing, there was rampant transphobia and despite there being a lot of f/f ships, tons of bronies were homophobic. And trying to find SFW art of your favorite character was damn near impossible. There is porn of every single character from MLP:FiM.

But what really drove me away from the fandom was the Down with Molesita debacle. Bronies campaigned for the harassment of a young woman because she managed to take down a blog that made one of the characters look like a rapist. And the worst part was that a lot of people seemed totally okay with it. 

I was done. I left and so did a lot of other people. 

In all honesty, I feel like that entire situation did teach me something. It taught me not to be too open-minded. It just sucks that such a great show got ruined by such terrible people
