It's amazing how supportive people can be. A couple of days ago, a friend of a friend in my hometown was discharged from the hospital for depression, cutting, and SI (I don't know what that stands for). He cannot return to school for the rest of the quarter because of this. I've never met the guy in person, but I was his facebook friend. And I was absolutely amazed at the amount of support his schoolmates were showing him through facebook.
I swear there were at least 300 heartfelt wall posts telling him to get better and it's just so amazing to read. For a small private school, that's pretty amazing.
Yesterday, he posted a status finally:
thanks everybody for the amazing support
its really nice to know that there are caring people out there
i really value [name of his private school] and facebook (for those who arent at [school]), as a community, and i was really almost overwhelmed by the love and care shown by so many people
thank you so much and i hope to get better soon

I requested my skit group to pray for him and I hope he can feel the support and love around him from unexpected places. I want to tell him many things, but I didn't write on his facebook wall because I'm a chicken. But I hope that my prayers can reach him.
It makes me sad how people show so much support after disaster strikes though. It's another example of "you don't know what you've got until it's gone". Thank God that he is still alive--but this was a little wake up call for me to start appreciating people now, before it's too late. Eye-opening.
