Prompt 4 - Knee

James did think he could love Regulus more than he already did, but hearing him be the one to suggest a prank made his heart swell until he was sure it would burst. 

“It’s too open here,” Sirius suddenly declared, bouncing to his feet. “To the operation's booth!” He pointed dramatically at the spiral staircase. 

“He’s been reading your Muggle books again, hasn’t he?” Regulus sighed as he slid off James’s knee and made to follow his brother upstairs to their dorm room. 

“Yeah, he has,” Remus chuckled, rubbing the back of his neck as he followed Regulus. 

“Well, better go up before Sirius thinks of a way to blow the lake up or something,” Peter sighed, but hurried along anyway, clearly excited about the idea of planning a prank. James gave them a minute and then got up too. He winked at Lily, who was watching them closely through narrowed eyes. She scoffed at him and turned away. 

He climbed the stairs, hurrying when he heard shouting coming from their room. 

“No snails, Sirius. What is it with you and fucking snails?!” Regulus growled. James walked into the room where they had already set up a circle of pillows and snacks, and in the centre was Sirius looking shifty. “There’s some in here, isn’t there?” 

“What? No,” Sirius answered, his eyes flicking over towards his trunk. Regulus stormed over to the end of Sirius’s unused bed and lifted the lid of his trunk.
