The New Frontier - Axiom Magazine

Part of the The New Frontier series: The project to surface and support Australia’s most interesting and unique crowd funded creative projects. Made possible with sponsorship from Bulleit Bourbon. 

Lucy Stevens looks how I imagined when I meet her at a small Vietnamese café in Newtown.

Her eyes are covered by large sunglasses and tattoos feature prominently on her arms. She hands me a draft copy of Axiom magazine.

It’s a beautiful collection of photographs she’s taken, as well as those taken by young Australian artists she likes.

The magazine, originally conceived as a university project, has blossomed into something much larger, inspired by the artists she would see online on websites like Tumblr.

“I would see these amazing artists, who were so young, and thought it would be awesome to give them a platform from which to show their work.”

Axiom features many of Lucy’s photoshoots, and well as photoshoots and interviews with other artists. It exists, Lucy hopes, as a great showcase for Australian artists and first of a series of such magazines. “I would love for it to turn into something regular. I think it’s a great idea.”
