Summary: After the events of CATWS, Tony discovers something in the leaked SHIELD data that catches everyone’s attention. A list of HYDRA research bases. When the team starts taking them out, however, things go sideways in ways they didn’t expect. Director Fury pulls his support, the HYDRA bases are not what they seem, and a certain ghost is testing the edges of their mission parameters… And through it all, Tony can’t seem to help but dig until he gets to the bottom of things.

Review:
First of all, I just need to start off by saying that this story needs a thousand more kudos and comments and bookmarks. Walls of Jericho is, hands down, my favorite WinterIron story and it boggles my mind that more attention hasn’t been paid to it. I love it to the point that I regularly–as in at least once every two months–go back to reread it and I can neither confirm nor deny staying up until three a.m. on a regular basis just to read it all in one sitting… even with work the next day.
As the tags (that I pretty much copied and pasted from the story) say, this is an AU for post Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and I think that the author does an amazing job of diverging from then-current canon–and yet still making the story feel true to the MCU (upon one of my rereadings, I was surprised at some of the ‘real world’ happenings that ended up appearing in later movies; I won’t spoil you, but gotta say that it was a spot-on prediction).
The plot is fantastic and very well contained–the transition from Point A to Point B goes very well–and I absolutely love the characterization of everyone in this story. And how Tony eventually manages to stumble upon Bucky? No matter how many times I’ve reread this story (which is a lot), I still snort at it because it’s very much something that a 1940s Bucky would do (if only for his own amusement and to prove a point).
Tony and Bucky’s bantering is absolutely entertaining to read, and I approve of the slow development towards something that grows between them. The ending always makes me grin stupidly at my phone and, honestly, the only complaint that I can make is that I wish that it was longer or that there was a sequel for ‘what happens next’ because I’m greedy and would absolutely love more.
Needless to say: you need to read this story. ASAP. :)
