AHHHHAHAHA I can post pics now! This is Match Your Breath to Mine, by dear @27dragons <3 Stunning artwork of chapter 4 by @wr0wn.
As always, crafty details under the cut!
Such a pleasure to make this bind for a gift exchange! I made two copies (the third, my own, is still in progress aha), one for dragons and one for dear @zillac.
I had SO much fun designing these covers. The fic is a wonderful jayvik college AU set over the course of their time together at university (AND THEY WERE ROOMMATES!!). When I was in college, I had a corkboard on my desk with a bunch of memorabilia and photos, so I wanted to emulate that dorm room, scrapbook-y feeling here. Photos are from various Pinterest images that I converted into Polaroids in Canva (there are a few I had to cut for space, but posting all them here now ehe)--
--and the full spreads were designed in Affinity Publisher:
The assets were also a blast to gather and collage together! Some I made myself (the red string is a piece of yarn I had in my fiber stash, and the acceleration rune sticker was hand-lasso'd by me in CSP), some I had in my assets stash, and some were from various png blogs on tumblr. One of them is even a photo dragons took! (the one of the paper chain, hehe >:3).
One of my favorite photos to edit was the one I eventually used for the title page, which I made more jayvik-y in CSP lol:
For the construction, I used the three-piece Bradel bind format that DAS explains here!
Endpapers were made with this Penguin Classics cover generator (I believe I found the link via Renegade aha). I foiled the endpapers in my cheapo laminator and some foil I had on hand, with some mixed results lolol (dragons and zil got the good ones >.<).
I'm also improving with rounding + backing spines! behold, the prettiest mushroom I've hammered to date :D
Covers were printed on printable canvas, which is now my go-to for all my digitally designed covers. It prints soooo nicely and holds up fairly well to all the folding and gluing I have do to while making the case. I also might try experimenting with sealing them with wax next time!
Finally, blue bookcloth is this gorgeous Japanese linen I bought while on a trip last year! It is SO dreamy to work with, highly recommend. The color is stunning and the iron-on foil and vinyl went down smooth as butter (I was concerned about the little neps at first, but they posed no issue and add so much yummy texture to the cloth :3)
AND THAT'S ALL, FOLKS! This bind was such a joy to make 🥹 Dragons's writing and MYBTM especially has such a special place in my heart - thank you so, so much to dragons for writing and sharing it, and to zil for beta'ing and commissioning art for it! Here it is one more time, for the road <3
