Can antis stop headcannoning us please
hi baby~ it's me tongue ;-; I'll be back with skinned soon enuff, 4 now cya :p
i feel insanely uncomfortable rn
No, I'm not against using fiction as a coping mechanism
No, I don't want to censor you.
No, I'm not pro harassment
I'm against people romanticizing/sexualizing/glorification of dark topics in media. And treating it cutely.
Fictional stabbing, torture, cannibalism, stalking, and murder are all fine but you draw the line at rape, incest, and underage ships?
Why???
I don't want anyone to get stabbed irl just like I don't want anyone to get raped irl and reading about either one of them isn't going to change my mind on that.
All of the above topics are dark and taboo things that make people uncomfortable. They also all have a right to be explored in fiction in all different ways.
Why is violence so normalized that even the most staunch anti can have fun playing with the dark themes of murder but when it comes to rape, exploring it in fiction makes you a criminal?
They always go for the old excuse of "you can portray this but only in certain ways or else you're normalizing/glamorizing/romanticizing/fetishizing it which is bad" but ONLY when it comes to sexual things.
Horror movies? You can woobify the killers, ship them together, joke about them, and write killer x reader fanfic til your fingers fall off. That's all okay, everyone knows that watching a horror movie or crushing on a fictional killer won't turn you into an irl murderer. Duh!
So why can they understand that for violence but not other controversial topics? If you can understand that watching a slasher movie or writing Billy Loomis x reader fanfic doesn't turn you into a murderer, then why do you think someone who reads for Billdip or ships Katara x Sokka is a real life sex criminal?
I doubt we'll ever get a real answer because there isn't one. It just boils down to "taboo stuff I can handle is fine and can be explored freely, taboo stuff I can't handle is gross and has no place in fiction".
30 year old "Fandom mamas" when you tell them its weird to fantasize and write about a child getting touched by an adult even if its fiction and that its weird they interact with minors or go into kids spaces and then get mad when interacted with by kids:
"YOU'RE PRO CENSORSHIP!!!!" "BABYS FIRST FANDOM!!" "PURITEEN!"
those are the only few words they know, they repeat it like its their lifelife.
When are proshippers going to realize that Antishippers aren't against depictions of harsh topics in media? As an antishipper I am totally okay if a story mentions S/A, pedophilia, and things like that. I probably won't read it because I am uncomfortable with descriptions of topics like that, but it's good that stories that expose awful things exist. It can help victims feel represented and understood, and expose the evil that is paraphila. Antishippers just dislike when things such as S/A are portrayed in positive ways or sexualized/fetishized. And it astounds me that this isn't a belief shared by everyone.
"fiction doesn't affect reality"
in my country, there was a kid who jumped off a building a few years ago because they thought they were a pokemon.
there was a teen(?) who raped his younger sister because he watched incestous/rape porn.
the book "the birth of a nation" or whatever it's called.
propaganda.
discriminated people being misrepresented in things like shows, and thus excluded in society.
the slenderman killings and that shark movie.
people finding comfort in shows/kinning characters/being fictosexual/romantic.
these are all proof that it indeed affects reality.
fiction is a branch of reality. if it didn't affect reality, it wouldn't exist.
I think the most irritating thing about darkshippers is their claim that itâs âjust fictionâ and I remember seeing a TikTok where the proshipper said that fictional characters are likes dolls in the sense that you can do whatever you want with them because âno one is actually getting hurtâ.
I agree with thatâŠto a point. To me, fictional characters are like dolls, and yeah you can play with them however you like. But how you play these fictional âdollsâ, still says a lot about you and your overall mindset. If youâre taking an adult fictional character and making them grooming/raping a child character, especially in a way that depicts as âhotâ and/or âcuteâ,  coping mechanism or not, thatâs still extremely concerning.Â
Itâs not the fact that youâre making that adult character âdollâ do that to that child character âdollâ, no, there pently of people who also use âdollsâ as a way to coping with their trauma, and feel less alone, but the problem arises when you start romanticising/sexualising those traumatic experiences, actively shipping abusers/rapists with their victims, in an idealised manner.
A lot of people seem to forget that sites like tumblr and TikTok ARE public spaces! If you were to actually take some dolls to an irl public place, and reenact the thing darkshippers post about online, someone is going to say something! Youâre going to get criticism because youâre depicting other peopleâs trauma in a way that minimises the damage those kinds of things do to actual victims.
Being a victim yourself doesnât excuse that. No amount of âitâs just fiction, no is actually getting g hurtâ, âitâs a coping mechanismâ and âyouâre just pro censorshipâ is going to shield you from the fact that what youâre doing is, in fact, affecting others, negatively or otherwise, especially when you post it somewhere for anyone and everyone to see, children and adults alike! Group chats and DMs exist, fucking use them!
