"I'm sorry about your religious trauma, but it's not my problem" is not a mean or invalidating statement, by the way.
White pagans of today really need to remember that the people of ancient non Christian and pagan religions across the globe have been colonizers and oppressors throughout history, too. Ancient Greeks, ancient Romans, ancient Egyptians, the Vikings, the list goes on.
Religions have been used for the wrong reasons for as long as human civilizations have been a thing. Any religion, in the wrong hands, can become a tool for conquest and destruction.
No religion is inherently "good" or "bad" for being a religion.
"I don't have a religion therefore you can't either" isn't any less colonialist than "my religion is valid and yours is not", by the way, people.
Let people have their comforts, if they're hurting no one.
This includes religions.
The religious people who are vibing in their own lanes, minding their own businesses, watering their own gardens, they are hurting no one and nothing.
Your traumas are valid but that doesn't mean things shouldn't exist because of your traumas.
Some of y'all would rather blame people who've had nothing whatsoever to do with your religious trauma than heal and it's bloody obnoxious, to be honest.
Your trauma is valid and should never have happened to you. But the whole world ain't your scapegoat, and neither is trauma an excuse to be a dickbag.
And quite frankly, "I should be allowed to be nasty because I have trauma" is manipulative as hell. Shit like this is what turns victims into abusers.
Christian people of color have never needed and will never need white Christians to interpret God for us, nor white atheists to tell us how we should feel about God. Fuck off. All of you.
Being religious doesn't make you inherently moral. And neither does being not religious.
I don't know how else to explain to some of y'all that you're doing absolutely nothing to fight Christofascism and Christian hegemony by going after people who are only minding their own businesses with their religions.
