I’m so excited to announce my first ever published comic cover!
A few months ago, I was thrilled to have been contacted by my friend Matt Frank, who is currently creating the Mothra series for IDW comics, written by the iconic Sophie Campbell, aka @mooncalfe-art!
Matt drew Mothra, and I contributed both the vehicles and Antra, my baby girl in the back there. This is a variant cover exclusive to the Heroes and Fantasies store in San Antonio, Texas!
Words cannot express how honored and excited I am to get to contribute something connected to these two artists, whom I’ve looked up to for years, and I’m just so happy to see the cover. 🥹
Behold the Empress of Entropy, ANTRA! Designed by [Sophie Campbell] and myself, Antra is the massive monarch of a new species of monstrous ant-creatures. She is just one of the thrilling terrors that await within Mothra, Queen of the Monsters, coming from IDW Publishing next March!
Mothra: Queen of the Monsters issue 5 first thoughts (mild spoiler warning)
~
Finally, after all these months, the epic finale to Mothra: Queen of the Monsters is here! Mothra Gemini and Antra must unite to defeat the omnipotent Omegaguirus and save the Earth...but at what cost?
This issue begins as the climactic battle between Mothra Gemini, Antra, and Omegaguirus ensues. Omegaguirus wastes no time in unleashing her full potential, managing to severely injure both Mothra Gemini and Antra with minimal effort.
Mothra: Queen of the Monsters shows us how dangerous and powerful Megaguirus could become. No doubt, any fan of Megaguirus would be thrilled to see their favorite Kaiju become an unstoppable force here.
Now, I won’t spoil anything too much, but this issue had me screaming a couple of times, and the finale brought me to tears. This was definitely way more gory than the Rebirth of Mothra trilogy.
Even though the story wraps things up rather quickly, I think it was a neat way to conclude. I’m hoping Queen of the Monsters gets greenlit for a second part, and if not, I’m grateful for what we got.
Special thanks to Matt Frank, Sophie Campbell, and Roberto Rivera Padro for bringing this wonderful comic miniseries to life. I hope this could be the start of more solo Mothra-related projects in the future.
4/5 stars~
Minor Spoilers of Issue 3 of Mothra: Queen of the Monsters.
MECHAMOTHRA FIGHTING GRAND KING GHIDORAH AND DESGHIDORAH (IN FUTURE)
ANTRA CREATED BY THE EARTH ITSELF IN PREPARATION TO FIGHT AGAINST MEGAGUIRUS (MUCH LIKELY BATTRA'S IN GODZILLA VS. MOTHRA)
Opposite side: Antra's priestesses in future dying WITHOUT Antra just as the same with the Shobijin in the present day dying WITHOUT Mothra. (Really sad for them)
Somehow connected to why they are not harmonizing each other. (The human twins and Antra's Priestesses)
It is not control, but a deeper bond and partnership with one another.
MOTHRA GEMINI IS RISING I REPEAT MOTHRA GEMINI IS RISING!!!
Antra's Priestesses, the Shobijin, and Emi and Mira gonna team up to fight against Megaguirus and her swarm in the next Issue 4 with the help of Mothra Gemini and Antra! (Yay!)
Valia is both a fighter in training and a magician
Valia is blind in one eye due to an incident during training
Tarles is a bookworm pacifist
I've changed the basis of Vesper and Vegeta's relationship in the story - Vesper and Vegeta knew each other since being forced into Frieza's army. (Originally, they never met until the Saiyajin Saga)
She's the only other person who knows Vegeta's born a female, King Vegeta being the other person, after being asked to perform his top surgery. They never 'got along', but they worked together well enough.
Vesper didn't catch feelings until during the Namek Saga, being able to work alongside him to stop Frieza. Her debut doesn't happen in the beginning of DBZ, but instead, the Namek Saga - being seen with Frieza, Dedoria, and Zarbon.
Valia and Tarles aren't born until after ToP, Vesper's pregnancy being revealed during ToP.
Antra x Piccolo = Koumori
Antra's race has been completely redesigned
Antra is an herbalist
Piccolo is more of a ninja after settling into the Z Fighter crew - being quiet/cold/stealthy
Koumori is still shy and anxious, but now carries on the ninja skills from Piccolo, but only fights if necessary
Koumori is a slight mutation of Echololan that causes him to have vampiric blood thirst, which is a very rare mutation
Antra and Piccolo have an agreed poly to allow Antra to date Supreme Kai, who is also with Beerus
Antra doesn't come in until the Future Trunks Saga, being Bulma's personal gardener alongside his job in the Galactic Gardener Association (OC organization). He ends up joining the group to see the whole Mecha Frieza vs. Future Trunks out of curiosity.
Antra catches feelings for Piccolo before his onscreen appearance, having seen him around the world while working. He enjoys Piccolo's cold personality since he sees it as 'another person like me who isn't my race'. Though, Piccolo has picked up on his presence here and there before but never interacted since Antra never posed a threat.
Koumori ended up with two pairs of ears, and no one is sure why. He has smaller wings than other echololans around his age, assumed to be because of his hybrid race. He has longer fangs than both Echololans and Namekians, probably having mixed the two genes. Both Koumori and Antra are mostly blind as most Echololans are, being gifted in seeing Ki than actual sight.
They are both also mostly deaf, causing them to not talk much. However, thanks to Koumori's double ears, the Namekian ears are better at picking up certain frequencies, but he's still hard-of-hearing for the most part.
Princess Fuji x Broly ≠ Orin
Fuji's race has been completely redesigned
Fuji is a powerhouse leader, mostly focused on Broly (originally interested in Vegeta and Broly- Vegeta for his status, Broly for his power)
Broly is Broly uwu (he has lots of freckles and sunspots)
Orin is a mediator for the conflict with the kids, refusing to fight completely
Orin is fully blind after an incident in battle
Orin is NOT Broly's kid (no one knows who his father is except Fuji) 🤭
Fuji's race/planet comes into play just before ToP, during the search for the Super Dragon Balls. Vegeta, Goku, and Vesper end up finding the planet at the edge of the universe by accident and meeting this subspecies of Saiyajin.
Fuji and Orin live on their planet, but visit both Vampa and Earth often. Fuji is instantly caught by Broly because of his power and personality. Orin sees Broly as his father, despite finding out he his real dad is before Broly's introduction to the story.
Fuji and Cheelai start as frenemies in a love triangle but end up just agreeing on 'we both can have feelings for him, it's whatever bestie'. Cheelai and Orin get along well, but she doesn't like how sarcastic he can be. Broly also sees Orin as his kid to an extent, still new to the whole step-dad role, and tries his best.
The Alchemical Body as Commonwealth: Desire, Praxis, and Spiritual Power
The alchemical body emerges not as a mystical curiosity nor as an esoteric ornament appended to an otherwise secular understanding of embodiment but as the primary site in which desire, praxis, and spiritual power are woven into a single fabric of liberation that refuses the disciplinary regimes of capitalist biopolitics and their insistence that the body is merely a productive instrument, a…
