SHERLOCK UNIVERSE???
“You only see what I allow you to see, Mr. Holmes, no more and obviously no less.”
The statement-of-fact tone that emanated from the mirror was one Glass recognized, having used it on many occasions, and she studied this version of herself with keen interest - as did a tall man with shallow cheeks and cutting eyes, who was standing not far from the reflection. He seemed to be becoming more uncomfortable as the seconds passed, eyes glancing more quickly and rather frantically over the woman as if trying to put together a puzzle but not being able to find the pieces.
Another man, sitting, watched the other male figure on his side of the mirror, and stood, clapping his hands together. “Okay! It’s been a pleasure having you over, Miss uhm-“ a pause, a slight furrow of his rather heavy brow because of the sheer oddity of the name, “Glass. I’m sure Sherlock will have a grand time with the case you presented, after he finishes the one he’s occupied with right now, and my wife will be expecting us for dinner in the hour. So if you haven’t anything more to add, then I will very respectfully show you the door.”
Glass’s reflection looked away from the taller man and at the stockier one. “Thank you, Doctor Watson. Your courtesy is appreciated,” she responded, using a polite tone which she then turned back on the other man. “If you have completed your assessment, Mr. Holmes, I shall take your friend’s offer of escort and make my exit.”
Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson? Tabitha raised a brow, the corner of her lip twitching into a smile. Fancy that.
“You may leave, yes,” Sherlock responded with a nod, holding eye contact with Glass for as long as she did. Something in his eyes - oh, he was flustered, no doubt, but that…that looked like vague respect. Tabitha couldn’t help but feel proud, as though she had succeeded, despite knowing that that reflection was not actually herself and the success was not actually her own. As the reflection began to exit, Sherlock’s eyes sparked with realization. He turned to her, a finger raised, and John and Glass paused. She watched him intently. “I would not suggest exaggerating when you share your assessment with your employer,” he stated, words calculated, clearly looking for a particular response.
The reflection smiled with a cold amusement, and yet with as much respect in her eyes now as had been in Sherlock’s as she gave the response he required. “As I said, Mr. Holmes, you only see what I want you to see. As does my partner. Doctor Watson, if you will?”
The image in the mirror faded, leaving Tabitha staring at her actual reflection, wondering at what she’d seen. What an interesting life. Not that her own wasn’t. She couldn’t help but smirk, though.
Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.
Fancy that.
