Mindless
A story including a silver object, Mindless
“I never knew true mortality until I stood in front of your tombstone.”
What is the right way to answer the question, what would you do for the sake of your life? The life of another's? To some this is an easy question to answer, morality is not always the best of choices.
“The CEO of Zenith has gone missing; she went MIA during an experiment she swore would work. I’m afraid she might not be coming back.”
“CEO of Zenith, Marina Aruetar has tragically passed. Reporters have claimed the medical giant’s CEO had a bad heart. It finally gave out one morning, and she had a heart attack yesterday morning. Paramedics were unable to revi-” The reporters' words from the television were cut short. Dawning a black suit, he couldn’t help but feel empty, it was no heart attack. But the story was merely a ploy to save the face of her beloved company. He’d received a call two days ago; her ringtone was clear. Her voice even more so as it threatened to be drowned out by the cacophony of screams and inhumane screeches in the background. “Anubis, listen to me, I discovered something remarkable!” She called, in that excited tone. She had done what she had set out to do, he could almost see that familiar smile curving her plump lips. “What have you found?” Was all he could question, no doubt she wouldn’t want him interfering in her affairs. Even if it meant this particular assignment, would end up getting her killed. It was as if she didn’t know she was truly mortal. “You’ll just have to wait for that surprise my love, you’ll know soon enough.” the Static cut into her voice, the phone beginning to wink her voice in and out as she spoke. Every other word was all he could make out before the last words he heard was “I love you.” Shaking his head, furrowing his brow his footsteps echoing in the hallways. Her words still reverberating in his mind, still brought a tight feeling to his chest along with the feeling that she was truly in trouble. Don’t. Find. I love you. Static drowned her voice out; she had her wishes. She was still alive if barely, she was no mere mortal. Marina brought herself out of hells fire, he believed her to traverse the plane between mortality. She couldn’t truly die. Although as his car pulled up to the cemetery, as the soles of his shoes squished against the rain drenched grass. He walked past the crowd of people leaving the area as his eyes finally landed on the tombstone. With her name on it. It wasn’t true, but he couldn’t stop that tight feeling in the middle of his chest. The pain that washed throughout his body and stopped at the end of his fingertips. “I love you too my Habib.” was all he could allow let slip, lest he truly feel his anger towards her. “I told you. Don’t go where I can’t follow.”
Marina had been traversing the woods to find this creature that had sprung from her medical table. Had so willingly ran from her station to scream out into the stars for the sweet pang of death. Although it seemed nothing would allow that, as she carved into the creature. It’s screams echoing off of the walls of the mine she had managed to chase it into. Bloodied, bruised, but she was nowhere near beaten as she allowed that all too familiar smile to curve her features. “Well would you look at that? It seems you’ll be providing more than what you bargained for.” The woman grinned as she pulled a blood soaked, silver organ from the man's abdomen. It pumped with life even as it was pulled away, as its host screamed and pushed her away. The blood slowly subsiding as it’s wound healed, allowing it to scurry away. Leaving her to hold the beating object, a content sigh. “You truly will prove your worth. Now to get back and show it off.” She mused. Her first stop would be at Pantheon with her new found prize.
