Summary: Connie and Bertholdt are paired for patrols. This is before Bertholdt’s cover is blown so Connie tries to befriend the tall boy.
Connie didn’t know what would have come of being on patrol with the lanky boy. He tapped his foot and kept looking around for something to do since the tall dude wasn’t really talking. He quickly has had enough of the silence. “ Soooooo Berty-boy” He laughs out awkwardly. “You keep to yourself a lot, tell me about yourself! Open up a lil! I’ll tell you 1 fact about me for every fact about you that you tell me” He suggests playfully. It’s obvious the small shaved boy really couldn’t stand the silence between them.

Marco was shinning up his boots and making some quick checks to his ODM gear. He knew the expedition was a few days. He wanted to be completely prepared, as well as get a full 100 on the pre-expedition inspection. So he was working hard on everything.
He paused when he heard the door open. Odd. He could have sworn Armin had gone to go check on Eren and Hanji’s experiments. He looked over his shoulder and relaxed a bit seeing the tallest of the new recruits enter.
“Oh hi Bertholdt!”

THESE SCATTERED souls, each lost and left wanting: soldiers serious with their grim facades and vacant expressions. THIS KINSHIP IS NOT ENTIRELY UNREAL. Were he ( monster / messiah ) a more complete creature his heart might have lent itself to pity / but he is no more than knotted sinew and salted earth: the phantom ache pulsating behind his ribs is only a distant memory, an incomplete thought expanding and contracting like a muscle that only flexes on reflex. LOOK, EVERYONE, THE SOLDIERS ARE COMING HOME !! LOOK, EVERYONE, HOW BRAVE / HOW FEARLESS THEY ARE !! Oh, what a lackluster existence this is. To be confined to this wayside, an impartial observer whose eyes only mirror the hate they see reflected back in them. And why should he concern himself with mortal affairs ? He owes nothing to a humanity that would sooner self-slaughter than sacrifice. ( COWARDS. COWARDS. EACH AND EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM. )
Though ... Among them - this throng of passing soldiers - there emerge a few new faces, of which he recognizes only because of the naked ignorance that betrays the aloof weight of their expressions. ( HIS TONGUE PRESSES AGAINST THE BACK OF HIS TEETH. HE STOPS, HE STARES, HE THINKS OF FRESH MEAT AND THE BRITTLENESS OF YOUNG BONES - ) It’s curiosity, maybe, and more than likely a point of pride: come and gawk at mankind’s miserable savior !! Come and scorn your natural predator !! LOOK, EVERYONE: we are not so helpless that we will let this maniacal beast roam free to terrorize us any longer. WHAT A FARCE !! He hates this charade / hates it even more for the fact that it hurts more than it has any right to. ( “Don’t you want to help people ? Don’t you want them to be free ? If you really want to save them, then you have to learn-” ) Each of their wayward glances is a stone pit lodging itself into the dried viscera of his flesh. ( I ONLY WANTED TO HELP THEM; I ONLY WANTED / TO BE WANTED ... )
His glare settles on one who rises above the crowd, who reflects and deflects the same hatred he feels towards himself / who thinks I’m sorry and just look at you, you soft, weak thing. Unbidden, a low growl rumbles up from the depths of his core. He leans forwards in his trappings, leather creaking and steel groaning: I DON’T NEED YOUR PATRONIZING PITY. I DON’T NEED YOUR MARTYRDOM. KNOW YOUR PLACE, SOLDIER, AND I’LL STAY IN MINE.
send 🐅 for my muse to growl at yours.

Annie felt bad. She has killed in the past when she led the Titans to Wall Maria. But she did not know these people and did not want to know. But Marko was part of the 104th Cadet Corps. She had known him for many years. He was a harmless idealist. He could have died quietly and unnoticed. This was not her direct fault and she would not have thought about it after completing the mission. But Rainer and Berthold lost their vigilance and they had to kill Marko themselves. Rainer forced her to help them, and now Annie was holding his spatial maneuvering device. This will help them in their mission. She raised her eyes to Berthold.
"The sooner we get rid of those two titans that they caught the better. This thing will help me. No one remember Marco’s spatial maneuvering device. No one know anything about it..."
Sigh. “He’s doing it again.” Eyes narrow as she focuses on the figures in the distance, one towering over the others. It’s tiresome, but she can’t help but feel pity for the blonde and his best friend. “Have you talked to him about it yet?”

It kept Mikasa up at night when she lay beside him, the steady beat of his heart next to her ear serving as a reminder. When she saw him each day, she couldn't help the blush that covered the bridge of her nose or the simple desire to be closer to him, to grow with him. She loved each moment they spent together, she loved the sound of his voice that comforted her no matter the circumstances, the way his touch was so gentle, and she loved the way his warm eyes were always so inviting. She loved Bertholdt, and it was tearing her up inside.
It was later in the evening, after a full day of sparring and chores, when she saw him across the field. She had just finished clearing the paths that were threatened to be overrun by thorns and the like, her arms smattered with small cuts from the job. They stung, but it was nothing she wasn't used to. Taking a deep breath, Mikasa picked up her pace in order to put away the tools quickly, wanting to catch him before he left.
She wanted to tell him, how every time she saw him her heart would swell with the desire to protect and be close to him. Mikasa hadn't understood it at first, why she felt this way and was worried she might be sick. After a quick talk with some of the other girls in the dorm, and much giggling on their end, the conclusion that she was in love had been reached. Of course it was a different love from the one she held for Eren and Armin, but love nonetheless.
"...Bertholdt?" Mikasa started, walking over to him while brushing some of the hair away from her face. She would have other days to tell him of course, but their job was dangerous, and she wanted him to know now in case... In case anything happened to either of them. The thought itself, of losing him like that, caused a painful lump in her chest. Clearing her throat, her hand found his and she laced their fingers together, so used to the action by now it felt natural. "Do you have some time.. For me?" She asked, looking up to him while her thumb ran across the knuckles in his hand.
