Why does Juniper wear a concealment stone?

Is it related to them dyeing their hair?

Partially. Their reason for wearing a concealment stone is mostly a mix of being a Gender thing and them being incredibly insecure about their real appearance. As far as gender goes, it is actually less that he feels dysphoria without it, and more that he feels incredibly euphoric with the stone on. But insecurities about their true appearance come from beauty standards they pushed on themself. It wasn't until after he started wearing a stone that they began getting attention from others, and since then, they couldn't go back to living without it.

In Reaching Out, when the twins give their stones to Amity, we see that she didn't expect it to alter her appearance the way it did and was pleasantly surprised with the result based on her reaction. They didn't have to enchant it in any way to create that exact appearance, so I believe that concealment stones (unlike cloaking stones, a concealment stone variant made to allow the wearer to have a pre-set appearance) make their wearers present in a way based on their subconscious.

That said, Juniper never saw himself as "pretty". Their mother had always been the most beautiful witch in his eyes, but because of their estranged relationship, Juniper doesn't want to look like her. And yet, he still wants to be as beautiful as her, especially in a way that would get her attention. Juniper's natural hair color is that of their mother's, so that's why it changes. Another major thing they cover up because of their mother is their second mole but that is a story for another time. So the concealment stone helps bring out their "true self", so to speak. This of course means that unless he enchants a stone to appear a specific way, the appearance they take when wearing the concealment stone can evolve.

saw someone talking about making a fic recommendation post and while I don’t have many followers, I also kinda want to make a couple fic rec posts, I have so fucking many that I hoard (mainly hannigram) but I’ve also got some for Alien Isolation and Our Flag Means Death and i think a handful of Strangers From Hell and there’s so many good fics I have and want to tell other people about so I might do that. Just for fun

btw I’m definitely not procrastinating writing my short stories. definitely not.
