Thomas Sanders, 30 years old, no kids of his own, is looking for something to do with his life. Not like a job or anything, he has that covered, but he’s recently come to the realization that he isn’t really doing anything with himself. He has too much free time and what feels like next to no impact on the world.
Until, much to the shock of his close friends, he becomes a foster parent.
In next to no time at all, Thomas is paired with not one. Not two. But six foster kids.
Seventeen year old Patton Hart is far more cheery than Thomas had ever expected a foster kid to be, especially one who’s been in the system for nearly eleven years now. He’s good with kids, helpful around the house, but never speaks a word about previous foster parents or even his own biological parents.
Fifteen year old Virgil Williams is sort of edgy, kind of snarky, and very anxious. He’s by no means open about his trauma, and Thomas gets the feeling that he doesn’t trust him at all, but when he does get a laugh out of the kid... it’s a sight to see.
Thirteen year old Dee Truman doesn’t talk much. When he does it’s sarcastic, mean, or a straight lie. He’s the peak example of teenage angst, has a huge “you’re not my real dad” complex, but may or may not have cried when Thomas first bought him new clothes.
Twelve year old Logan Croft is a quiet kid. Most of the time. Okay, maybe only half the time, because he’s also a little bit hotheaded about the oddest subjects. Thomas doesn’t have to work at all to get the kid to jabber about astronomy, but it takes a lot of coaxing, a lot of trust, and probably a set of pliers to get Logan to open up about his feelings.
Finally, there’s the twins. Seven year olds Roman and Remus have bounced from home to home since their parents dropped them in the system a year ago. The two fight like cats and dogs, causing mayhem for each of their previous foster parents, but when the question comes up about separating them, the twins are stuck together like glue.
So, yeah. Suddenly young, single foster dad Thomas has his hands full with six insanely different children. But with the help of his friends, and a lot of patience, maybe he can make it through.
