So what we know about the champions themselves is that they each have a special power. Mipha with her healing, Daruk with his shield, Urbosa with her lightning and of course, Revali with his gale. However whats different about Revali from the others is that he isn’t some sort of royalty, or the leader of his people. He, just like Link, is a soldier. A very good soldier albeit, but a soldier nonetheless. He also was not born with his ability, it wasn’t handed to him on a silver platter, he worked for it. And as seen in the game he hadn’t actually perfected it by the time Zelda and Link go to recruit him. He trained day in and day out to be strong. That is also why he acts so pompous, hes making up for the fact that he isnt some special person who’s important, which is also why it’s so important to him that Zelda chose him to pilot Vah Medoh. However, the reason hes just straight up mean to Link is because he can see himself in him. Link trained day in and day out, he doesn’t truly have a power. He was just following his father’s footsteps. However what makes it worse is that he was the one chosen to protect Zelda. For no apparent reason this teenage boy was chosen to protect the princess of all people. And then he is also chosen by some “higher power” to wield the masyer sword. And now all of a sudden he’s actually important. Hes now more than just Zeldas protector. For all his posturing and complaining Revali knows that he isnt actually better than Link, and it’s probably like a slap to the face when he sees this kid who was almost the same as him be seen as more important.
However what makes him a truly tragic character is his fight with Windblight Ganon. Most if not everyone will agree that Revali’s fight is the easiest. And i agree, for Link Windblight is the easiest. However for Revali it was a very different story. When he was fighting Windblight it was not only dark, but it was also raining. The Rito can’t see anything in the dark, so already he was at a disadvantage and then theres the fact that it was raining, which made it more difficult to fly. So when we put 2 and 2 together it was basically a death trap. There was no way for him to win. And he still tried. We also know that Revali was the last to put up his danger signal, or the help signal i can’t remember which it is. Revali lived his life as a soldier, he died as a soldier, but in the end no one really remembers him.
