Mina Deserves Better

Finally after much delay, I got another character I wanna give a shoutout to. This time we got Eren’s former squadmate, Mina Carolina. 

The truth is I never really developed a very strong attachment to Mina, she arguably had more screentime than Lynne and yet Lynne is one of my favorites despite her shared status as a minor character. But in spite of that, Mina definitely stood out for her charm and outgoing nature in the short time she was around. 

Mina definitely felt like somebody who should’ve been a more major character, having had a clearly established relationship with Annie as possibly one of her only positive friendships in the series, something that REALLY could’ve done with something called development, ISAYAMA.....And for eagerness to prove herself to the cause along with the rest of Eren’s squad. Sure she was naive like most of the others and was not a Top Ten ranker, but Mina easily could’ve been a badly needed support system in the same vein as Sasha or even Historia. There was potential to be had that SHOULD have been exploited where that naivete slowly morphed into what she needed to be a real warrior. It’s not a new concept, but it’s a tried and true one. 

Hers was a very abrupt end which may not be anything new for the series, but I’ve never shied away from calling that out as AOT’s worst weakness and I’m not about to play nice now. Mina absolutely could’ve evolved into the kind of character who could’ve alleviated things in the worst of times for her allies if she had survived Trost. You know, kind of like how SASHA did? Face it people, the show suffered without that kind of presence, let’s not live in denial of it a day longer, thank you. Would’ve been awesome to see Mina and her fellow squad mates Nac, Mylieus and Thomas evolve into a squad worthy of the upper ranks. 

I wish I knew more about her VA, I haven’t watched much of Alexis Tipton’s work as of yet, but from what little I’ve seen she brings the same charm in all her performances and it would’ve been nice to have her along for the ride a bit longer. 

As much as I despise the Survey Corps’ uniform from season four, I have to admit seeing Mina in that thing was a lucky find, and she pulls it off pretty well. As they say, what could have been. Or rather what SHOULD have been. 

Justice for Mina Carolina, folks. Maybe she could’ve dragged Annie out of that shell of hers or been a major player in finding out what that girl’s real story was. If Mina is significant enough to be features in the show’s merchandise (Which I swear does exist, I’ve seen it), then we have a right to see more of her in action someday.
