My thoughts on ‘my war’ (aot season 4 op)

This is just how I’ve interpreted it. I’ve read the manga so spoiler warning for that

Let’s start a new life from the darkness

When I first heard this line I was thinking about it from the same perspective we had in season 1-3. That the scouts and the characters we knew were the “good guys”. With that perspective i thought it was about the scouts trying to free humanity (making a new life) from the Titans (the darkness). It also works from the perspective of the warriors/Marleyans. Starting a new life would be about getting rid of the eldians on paradis. And they are trying to achieve this (from the darkness) using the Titan powers.

Until the light reveals the end

Every time I hear this line all I can think is the light is referring to eren. Eren has been a kind of hope for the scouts once they started using his Titan abilities. The end could mean the end of the suffering but it seems more likely that it’s the end of everything.

Sinister faces, growing curses

Sinister faces could be in reference to the Titans. But from the scouts side the sinister faces call also be the warriors/marleyans. For the marleyans it could mean the eldians. Growing curses I would assume is referringto yimrs curse and how most of the Titan shifters only have a few years left

This is my last war

The last war should be a good sign meaning peace but given the tone of everything it seems unlikely. I can imagine this line coming from eren. His done with fighting and his ready to end it by any means. I can also imagine the warriors saying this line. They have been fighting so long and want to bring freedom to the eldians on Marley

Angels playing disguised with devil’s faces

This reminds me of how the eldians on the island are considered “island devils”. This line feels like a bit of foreshadowing to me. From the perspective of the marleyans the angels would be those who are trying to save them from the rumbling but those people also happen to be people who they call devils. From the scouts perspective I feel like this would be about eren. His been an angel whos saved them many times and given them hope but now his turned into someone they don’t recognise.

Children cling to their coins squeezing out their wisdom. Children cling on their very last coins

I’ve seen lots of people saying this is probably referring to a specific part which has happened in the manga. This is the only think I can think of which relates to this line

Destruction and regeneration

Destruction is pretty self explanatory given what’s happening in the manga. Regeneration reminds me of how the titan shifters can heal themselves. I also get a two sided argument in this line. The marleyans want the destruction of the eldians on paradis where as they eldians want to restore eldia

You are the real enemy

Another line that could be directed at so many people. I think of eren again. The way the voices over lap in this part makes it feel more like an argument. Like people aren’t in agreement of who the real enemy is.

The whole song actually feels kinda like an argument between multiple sides with how the voices of different languages overlap making it harder to hear any during the kinda chorus section. I think this song is a perfect op for this season
