Cursed Magic AU
An AU where everyone has some kind of power, but everyone's power also has a curse attached.
America - Able to transform parts of his body into various firearms. This results in him having an iron deficiency. And he never fucking learns his lesson about standing up too quickly.
England - Fire powers that leave burn scars.
France - Grows blood red roses. The more he grows, the less red they become, and the closer he gets to passing out from blood loss. Keeping roses he's grown alive also drains his blood. Depending on the size of the flower, he can keep a single one alive for anywhere between five hours and half an hour. It's not uncommon for someone to see a pale pink rose in his hair, ask "Hey, wasn't that rose red earlier?", and immediately see him pass out. He's been yelled at for it before, but he always responds with "Beauty is pain" or something about "the price of beauty". It took Germany longer than it should have to ban roses from World Meetings so France would stop passing out halfway through.
Russia - Able to temporarily turn people into ice statues. Duration depends on environmental temperature and how resistant his target is to his power. The more he uses his power on someone, the more resistant they become. He's used his power on the Baltic trio so much that they've become immune to it. Causes joint issues.
China - Can shoot fireworks from his hands, which burns his hands.
Germany - Technomancy. At first, it seemed to not have a curse attached, but as electricity became more widely used in technology, he started having problems with his heart
Veneziano - Lightning, which causes him to constantly feel the effects of electrocution. He has chronic headaches, problems with breathing, memory, and his heart, and has seizures. He is also hard of hearing. Using his power too much causes him to pass out. Austria called a priest for him a lot when he was having a seizure as a kid. In his defense, though, he had good intentions. But good intentions plus a time period with very limited medical knowledge does not equal good actions. He traumatized the poor boy. He can not watch anything involving exorcism without having a panic attack. Austria used to get mad at him a lot when he was a kid because he thought he wasn't listening until he finally complained to Hungary that Vene didn't listen to a word he said until he started screaming at him and she suggested that maybe he just can't hear very well, but by the time that happened, Vene was already terrified of him.
Japan - Earthquakes. He is unable to walk for awhile after using his power.
Romano - Can grow any poisonous plant under the sun, but gets poisoned by the plants he grows. People give him shit for his power, saying that he grows poisonous plants to match his poisonous personality.
Canada - Can turn invisible, but while he's invisible, everyone completely forgets he exists.
Austria - You thought he was a manipulative bitch before? Now he's basically a siren. Unable to speak for a while after using his power.
Prussia - Completely invulnerable except for one weak spot that will completely take him out of commission if hit.
Spain - Has powers like the sun, which causes sunburns of varying degree.
Portugal - Control over water. Very easily dehydrated.
Switzerland - Able to cancel the power of anyone within his line of sight. His eyes get dry easily
Greece - Greek fire. His hands are always sticky.
Poland - Can completely come apart, which, like Russia's power, causes joint issues. When he was partitioned, he lost a lot of his ability to control his power, and his joint issues got a lot worse. He'd frequently show up to Moscow or Vienna or Berlin with his head in his hands and something hanging by a thread. Russia, Austria, and Prussia eventually got used to seeing him like that, but it freaked all three of them the hell out at first. Austria even passed out once or twice.
Netherlands - Kinda like the Midas Touch except it doesn't affect everything he touches, just what he wants to turn into gold. It is also slowly turning him into gold. This quickly gets PAINFUL. He has several scars from repeatedly removing the golden parts of him, which he hasn't always been allowed to do as often as he wants to. Anyone who's been around him long enough knows several Dutch profanities. His power caused shorts and short sleeved shirts to be created centuries before they were in our world simply so his government could parade him around like a Ken doll, showing off patches of golden skin.
Wales - Fire breath. Constantly running a dangerously high fever.
Czechia - Creates soapy bubbles; her hands are always slippery.
Slovakia - Can permanently join things together. His hands are always sticky.
Iceland - Fire and ice. Extremely sensitive to temperature changes.
Norway - Ice powers that cause frostbite. He wears gloves to hide the scars. People like to call him Elsa, which he didn't mind at first, but it did get annoying.
Denmark - Control over wind, which causes respiratory issues.
Sweden - Grows plants, but he's frequently attacked by plant-eating insects
Finland - Northern lights. Can't use anything involving GPS or radio.
Estonia - Magical singing, which messes up his throat for awhile.
Latvia - Can create shields, but he gets hurt pretty easily.
Lithuania - Able to cause people to fall asleep by singing, which messes up his throat.
Indonesia - Lava. Burns him almost as bad as England's fire.
Seychelles - She's a mermaid! Her skin gets dry very easily.
Australia - Powers similar to a spider, including venomous fangs. He is not immune to his own venom and often accidentally bites himself.
Sealand - His skin can turn hard as steel. Like America, his power causes him to have an iron deficiency. Also like America, he never learns his goddamn lesson about standing up too quickly.
There are several old paintings of various Nations showing off their powers.
None of the Nations can control their powers well when they're drunk, England and Wales are especially dangerous when they're drunk because of how flammable alcohol is. At least one of London's fires happened because Arthur was drunk.
There will be more added... eventually.
