can you be gender apathetic and have a gender alignment?
Hey there anon, thanks for sending me your question. :-)
So, can a person be gender-apathetic (also called Apagender) and have an alignment? Yes, absolutely!
In my own words, I would define Apagender as being apathetic towards one's own gender identity. In other words, it would be when a person does indeed have a gender of some sort, but is completely or largely apathetic to what that gender may be or to the concept of gender applied to them as a whole.
Some similar identities to Apagender for your reading pleasure:
Agender: lacking a sense of gender identity, therefore having no gender.
Apogender: lacking a gender identity all together, therefore not participating in gender as a concept.
Genderless: lacking a gender identity all together, therefore having no gender.
Neutrois: an entirely neutral aporagender.
Yonderi: a sense of self beyond/transcending gender identity and similar modes of identification.
Gendernull: an undefinable, intangible uncreation of gender(lessness).
Gendervoid: perceiving a void or empty space where one's gender "should" be.
Genderblank: a blank gender that is indescribable, having no words to explain it.
Genderfree: An undefined gender basis in which gender is not present, when gender is insignificant or irrelevant to the individual, a gender identity which is generally ambiguous, but definitely queer in nature (QUIN).
Gender alignment is a similar concept to gender identity, but it also quite different. Gender alignment describes how one’s experiences in gender identity intersects with society, and often by extension, the gender binary.
For example, a person could be Apagender and female-aligned, meaning that they are apathetic to their gender identity, but their lived experiences are related to womanhood or they have aspects (presentation, expression, relationship with the patriarchy, social category, experiences in sexuality, un-gendered connection to etc.) that can somehow be related back to womanhood. There are many types of gender alignments, ranging from the above mentioned female-aligned, to male-aligned, to various non-binary alignments, to being unaligned to rejecting the concept of alignment all together.
A common system of alignment used by the non-binary community is the Galactian Alignment System, but you can always just describe yourself as “gender quality” + “-aligned” which is more common and uses less obscure jargon.
I hope this answered your question! If you need any clarification or have any more questions, please feel free to send me another ask.
