🚬 - bad habits aka the dead probie saga

Tommy's life at the 118 becomes incrementally easier with one single big change: a new hire.

His name is Brian Emmerson, he's fresh out of the academy, and Tommy suspects the kid was built in a lab to be some sort of blue collar wet dream.

Of course, Tommy doesn't meet him until his second day, having traded shifts a few days prior so that Mills could make it to some extended family member's kid's christening. "You know how it is with family," Mills had said with a what-can-you-do shrug, and Tommy had made a face and tilted his head in a way that he hoped conveyed he was familiar with the struggles of having lots of family that wanted him around.

Still, he can't complain. The change in shifts had meant his free day matched up with Abby's, and they'd spent all day watching the cheesiest romcoms they could find. He couldn't remember the last time he'd laughed until he'd cried like that.

Howdy!!!! Yesterday was busy but good and also very productive. I hope you are also having a great day! I hope you enjoy your microfic!

His heart had raced, it felt like he might have been having a heart attack, or palpitations. He hadn't been able to breathe. It was bad enough that Maddie was missing, taken the the newest series killer to stalk LA's streets; he'd tried calling Tommy needing his ex's calm reassurance that everything would be okay, that Maddie would be okay. Only it wasn't Tommy who answered his phone, it was his twin brother Donovan who he had never met but he'd heard so many stories about during him and Tommy’s six month relationship. The news that Tommy was missing hits him like lightening, he can barely hear over the blood rushing in his ears as Donovan explains Tommy hadn't shown up for several shifts with no explanation, when he'd gone to check on his twin there'd been signs of struggle, but no evidence that Tommy had killed, Evan didn't know how to comprehend that two of the people he lives most had been abducted by the killer.

But Tommy and Maddie are both alive, they will both be okay; Maddie is with Chimney and Hen receiving care and being loaded into the 118's ambulance. And Tommy is on a gurney, holding his hand tightly looking at Evan like he had been Tommy's savior and not the combined efforts of Delta squads 20 and 50; they have a lot to talk about, but they are going to be okay.
