Word: Funk Definition: Take part in a violent struggle involving the exchange of physical blows or the use of weapons.

Etymology: "Depression, ill-humor, "1743, probably originally Scottish and northern English; earlier as a verb, "Panic, fail through panic," (1737), said to be 17c. Oxford University slang, perhaps from Flemish fonk "perturbation, agitation, distress," possibly related to Old French funicle "perturbation, agitation, distress," possibly related to the Old French funicle "wild, mad."

Importance: Funk is a very useful word/describes a great genre of music

Definition: a profoundly tender, passionate affection for another person, place or thing.

Etymology: The word love goes back to the very roots of the English language. Old English lufu is related to Old Frisian luve, Old High German luba, Gothic lubo. There is a cognate lof in early forms of the Scandinavian languages. The Indo-European root is also behind Latin lubet meaning it is pleasing and lubido meaning desire. The word is recorded from the earliest English writings in the 8th century. 

Importance: Love refers to a variety of different feelings, states, and attitudes, ranging from pleasure ("I loved that meal") to interpersonal attraction ("I love my partner"). It’s an emotion that we can all relate to. Everyone loves something no matter if it is a person, place, or thing. Without this word, we would not have a term that describes what love really is. And that is what makes the word love so important.

deffiniton- Variety of Fig Tree native to Southeastern Asia. 

etymology-name litterally means sacred fig, and is named using the traditional and official two part plant naming system. 

Importance- this tree provided Buddha with shade during his enlightenment, which created a new world religion, which influenced human development economy thinking and everything else for the rest of time, so its important.

Word:  ridirkulous

Definition:  An adjective used to describe an action that is performed with massive german furiousness

The world ridirkulous comes from the basketball great Dirk Nowitzki who is german and has a clutch gene woven into his body.  The word was first used when Dirk made his first all star team appearance.  This word accurately describes numerous mavericks games, that, without the word, would be impossible to describe.

Rubbernecking

Definition: The act of gawking at something of interest

Etymology: Originated in the 1890's and what was used to describe how tourists acted. Tourists were known to "stretch their necks" to look around and sight see, an artist saw them and compared them to geese. 

Importance: These days, we use the term rubbernecking to describe what someone does when they look at the remains of an accident on the road when they drive by. It fits the description because that person is curious. Before this assignment, I had no idea why this word was the way it was but after finding out the history, I understand more.
