Gene Ha : "I love the muscular interpretations of Apocalypse by my art pals Alex Ross and Dan Brereton, but went in a different direction after a deep dive into the initial X-Factor design by legend Walt Simonson. There is a LOT of Iron Man design language, notably the segmented armor bits, shoulder discs, greaves, and forearm vambraces. Simonsons’s torso is clearly an armored cuirass with no sculpted muscles on the upper half. And Apocalypse’s head is, well, an earless head, but visually works better if drawn as a variant Iron Man style helmet."
